I’m a 52 year old man who suffers with Hashimoto’s syndrome … I take 75mg of T4 (Levothyroxine) + 50mg of T3 (Liothyronine) per day. My blood results are regularly all in range but I still feel like I have just been dug up from the local cemetery. I recently had a broad spectrum blood test including liver & kidney function, adrenals, thyroid, they also mentioned my bones … They also said my B12 was ‘fine’ … I don’t have the physical numbers of the results but I can get them.
I was directed here by a very helpful and knowledgable member of the thyroid group who said I can get advice and source my own B12 injections …. I have been trying 1 per day Methylcobalamin 1,300ug capsules and I think I’m feeling some benefit but it’s on and off. I (Like most of us under-active, Hashimoto’s sufferers) have had no actual help from the NHS what so ever to help with how our reseated actually makes us feel every day …. So I am more than willing (with some research of my own and guidance) to trial other drugs, supplements .. even if I risk making myself ill …. So can any of you give me some advice, and is it possible to source my own B12 injections to trial at my own risk.
Thank you

Your contact on the Thyroid group has given you excellent advice. Hashimoto’s and Pernicious Anaemia are both Autoimmune Immune conditions, and often occur together. ( there are over 100 autoimmune conditions!!) If you do have P.A. then you will need B12 injections . It is very difficult to get a diagnosis for P.A . THere is no accurate test for it .B12 Tablets sometimes can help a little ( made no impression on me though ) but they can send up your reading but not help the condition . The medical profession in general is horribly ignorant about P.A. So sourcing B12 for self injecting , is a good idea . B12 of any kind cannot be overdosed . , which is a huge blessing ! so there is no risk to you whatsoever ( it is best to have a first injection in a medical setting as there is a rare risk of an anaphylactic reaction , as there is with any new injection ) That reaction is like some people have from a bee-sting , which is also an injection !
Most , if not all members on this forum are self injecting . Anything from daily .upwards — We are all different — I need a weekly injection . I have a firm diagnosis from a positive Intrinsic Factor Antibody test . I was lucky , as about 50% of P.A, patients get a negative test . Even a positive diagnosis will only get an injection every 3 months . Sufficient for some , but not for many .
B12 injections are a prescription item in U.K. But luckily not in Germany . ( how enlightened !) But they are a pharmacy only item . So we get our supplies from excellent German online pharmacies. Unfortunately not all send to U.K. . Just a few . So this following info will help you
HOW TO OBTAINB12 (Hydroxocobalamin) AMPOULES FROM REGISTERED GERMAN ONLINE PHARMACIES
Things have changed regarding ordering b12Depot ampoules( Hydroxocobalamin ) which is what is used by the NHS in U.K.
I use apohealth.de They do not charge for delivery , You can choose to have the site in English ( bottom left ) . Pay with Paypal or card . This pharmacy sells world-wide , but not to New Zealand or Australia
versandapo.de You need Google Chrome for translation .
There are a few other German online pharmacies that deliver to U.K. I will add these when I find out Always good to have an alternative .
I advise registering , This makes subsequent ordering simple. Put your country in FIRST by clicking on the drop-down country list . Your post-code and the rest of your address will then be accepted .
You can use the following reference numbers to order
Packet of 10 Pascoe B12 depot Hydroxocobalamin single use ampoules 1.5mg x1ml —07568672
Ditto 100 ampoules 07568695
—————————————————————
Packet of 10 Hevert B12 depot Hydroxocobalamin single use ampoules -1mg x 2ml 06078368
Ditto 100 ampoules.06078380
Unfortunately our favourite ampoules , the Panpharma brand B12 depot -Hydroxocobalamin ( previously Rotexmedica ) are at the moment unobtainable. But we hope that they will soon be obtainable again
( Ref no 16199653)
The above brands work very well but are unfortunately more expensive than Panpharma . But when needs must……….
I also have Hashimoto's and low B12. I was on almost daily injections for over 12 months but didn't see any improvements in my symptoms. My GP organised a DNA test for me which showed I had snips in my MTHFR genes and could not methylate the B12 injections properly. He swapped me to a pre-methylated daily tablet and I saw dramatic improvements within 2 weeks. That was a few years ago now and my health is so much better these days. I'm in Australia though, and we're pretty lucky as far as treatments go, but I would highly reccomend sourcing a genetic DNA test if possible. Good luck!
