Hi Guys

Now I am going to be self injecting can anyone advise how I go about disposing of the needles and empty B12 ampules? What does it cost?

Thank you in advance.

I bought a £1.70 yellow sharps bin from Morrisins .A telephone number was provided.

Its collected free from my doorstep by a company.

It differs in every area .

Few chemists take them now.

Thank you. Where do you get needles and syringes from? What’s the specification - it seems mind blowing at the moment. Thank you again

Needles and syringes from Medisave.co.uk

Scientist, not medic.

There are lots of ways of disposal. If you put everything in your sharps bin it'll fill up quickly. The needle & syringe, complete, can go in the sharps bin. [Don't separate them as you are likely to stab yourself with the needle. Granted, it's only been stuck in you, so it's not that risky.] The rest of the stuff? Paper & card can be recycled, and any plastic or glass can go in the corporation waste streams.

The local hospital will have a clinical waste disposal scheme and it's worth trying to feed into that, plus the staff may even issue you with a replacement. Don't make a fuss over it and I bet you'll manage it. It's a matter of keeping it low key!

Good luck.

In my area the local council arrange collection, I phone them up and am told which day to leave the container on my doorstep. Neither the surgery, pharmacy or hospital accept them here.

just checked and my council will collect I just need to get a sharps box. Don’t know if they empty it on the doorstep or exchange full for empty - any ideas? Sorry to be asking so many questions but never thought about this before!

You must seal the yellow container and they will remove it intact.

You’re welcome, I started my journey without ever hearing of PA. You should be able to get the first one from a pharmacy and you can get them online. The council leave a new one when they collect the old one.

I have a 3lt box and it’s lasted over a year. It depends how often you will be injecting but I would get a larger box.
