Hi, please can you tell me how to dispose of my sharps box when full. I am reluctant to take it to my medical practice as I did not tell my Gp I was injecting B12. Thank you

Contact your local council, who should provide a collection service. Properly, you should be using yellow sharps bins for used needles.

Thank you, yes This is what I am using, a yellow sharps bin. Was just at a bit of a loss what to do now I have nearly filed my second one. Thanks for the advice 🙂

Some councils will replace sharps bins. In other areas you might have to check out your local pharmacy, vet or needle exchange program.

Do any of you get questioned when you take your sharps boxes? Mine is nearly full but don't have the energy to have "the conversation" with my pharmacist.

Hi,

I'd also like to know if people get questioned when they take sharps boxes to pharmacies.

I've seen an older gentlemen returning his sharps box to my local surgery - I presume it was diabetes sharps - but no way to know for sure 😉

No question asked by the pharmacist.

Even if they'd ask you, I doubt, just tell them. Doubt they'll comment or be inquisitive.

It should read - returning box to my local pharmacy, not surgery.

I’m in Hampshire and the council will only collect them with authorisation from my GP ☹️. Have looked into private companies but they mainly only deal with businesses. If you’re a private collection you have to guarantee to be in for three whole consecutive days and it costs about £50 for six monthly collections.

That is ridiculous. Hopefully a better service comes along soon or you can find something better in a neighbouring county

My local Superdrug took mine, the Boots store would not. I didn't really fancy the needle exchange programme!
