I have been given Folic Acid 400mcg by GP 1 daily, been taking this for 4 months now and don't feel
any better, also take Vitamin B 12 Cyanocobalamin 50mcg 1 daily been taking these for 2 weeks now
Vitamin D 1,000 units 3 daily, been taking these for 12 years now.
I have had numbness in my head, legs, arms, face , hands , feet. I have had an MRI scan and a CT scan all came back normal
I take 75 mcg of Levothyroxine daily. which I split into 2 doses 50 mcg in the morning and 25 in the evening. I feel absolutely awful, very tired, no energy and scared about what is happening to me. GP saying it could all be vitamin deficiency or Thyroid causing the Paresthesia . I do not have an appetite and only eat cereal and yogurts , some days I don't eat anything. I am extremely anxious and take Diazepam 3 x 2 mg daily and Amitriptyline 1 x 10 mcg a night. I take Apixaban 2. 5mg x 2 daily for 2 years now. I am very depressed and emotional too and have lost interest in most things I use to do.
Any Advice Greatly appreciated and thank all for the support you give us.
Take care and stay safe🌺

Your vitamin B level seems low, even though within the reference range. Many people are symptomatic with a level of around 300 ng (or less, of course). I assume B12 was tested in serum, this test is not very reliable because active as well as inactive B12 is measured at once.
Ferritin is also low, IMHO.
Your calcium is a bit over range, this should be monitored.
Your vitamin D looks also a bit low, it should be raised a little. Good values are from 75 to 150 nmol/l (30-60 ng/ml). So, you are at the lower end of this range.
Hi, I’m sorry to hear you feel so bad. The royal college of nursing (see below) says ferritin less than 30 is absolute iron deficiency. If you are not eating meat you have to work hard to keep your b12 and ferritin (which is iron storage) at the right levels. Low iron and low folate can cause numbness.
your calcium needs redone along with parathyroid hormone, and they must be taken at the same time.
if your calcium is at the top end parathyroid hormone should be at the lower end of its range . They have a seesaw relationship. When One is raised other should be low .
The body needs fuel to function like gas in a car. So if you're not eating it is no wonder you have no energy - stands to reason. What is not so clear is why you have no apetite. I'm inclined you may perhaps need to see another medical professional who may, perhaps, have a better handle on your troubles with a fresh perspective. For my part I take no supplements at all and the reticular blood tests seem to be all over the place., so the whole issue can be difficult for the health professional to properly diagnose. However if you have had this trouble for some time, there must be some sort of emerging pattern. So maybe.... if you can go to a doctor with some sort of reticular diary, he/she may be able to work it out
Thank you for the reply. I have an eating disorder that I have had for years now, plus being Hypothyroidism does not help either and I suffer with extreme anxieties. I have been referred to a Nutritionist.
I had B12 deficiency symptoms for years but struggled to get treatment because apart from one below range result, my serum B12 results were well within range.
B12 deficiency can have a huge effect on mental health, anxiety and depression are typical symptoms.
UK guidelines suggest that people with the symptoms of B12 deficiency should be treated even if their serum B12 is within normal range.
B12 deficiency can get misdiagnosed as other conditions.
There could be some details that might be upsetting on next website.
Thank you so mcy for the reply, my GP has raised my vitamin B12 -50 mcg to twice a day now, she said that B12 injections could be detrimental to my health. She is saying to see how I do on the Vit tabs first. I Feel Absolutely Dreadful though. I think maybe its the cost of the injections too. I do hope you are okish?
Hi Sleepybunny, she didn't explain why the injections could be detrimental, shes phoning me on Monday and i'm going to ask her that, maybe they are too expensive for NHS.
