Scientist, not medic.

No, I haven't heard of those but they sound interesting, and here's why.

Back in the mists of time when we had the Schilling Tests, we used two capsules containing [radioactive] B12. One was combined with IF. Patients with PA showed a higher absorption of the labelled, combined B12 than the unbound, and that's how we were abe to detect patients with PA. It still worked in the presence of IFAb too, as far as I can remember.

Whether this would provide any level of treatment however, I don't know, but it makes you think!

The British National Formulary is absolutely dismissive of intrinsic factor by mouth:

There is little place for the use of low-dose vitamin B12 orally and none for vitamin B12 intrinsic factor complexes given by mouth. Vitamin B12 in larger oral doses may be effective.

Might not be the first time BNF has been wrong...

And, for interest not a suggestion:

Chemeyes Vitamin B12 with Intrinsic Factor x 250 capsules for cats & dogs

"Vitamin B12 in larger oral doses MAY be effective.

"MAY" that is the question.

From reading the ratings they are recommended so who knows until you try them.

Even more awkward is that there is no licensed high dose oral B12 product in the UK except Orobalin - which only offers a single cyanocobalamin possibility.

And the official MHRA documents all have spelling mistakes in them. (Now reported.)

Umm It seems true that cats and dogs have better treatment than Humans πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Seeing as they refer to B12 absorption tests [which sound very Schilling-like to me] then unless things have changed, that's a good 12 years + out of date.

When we've got the likes of these organisations who will allow B12 injections at huge personal cost without prescription AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT DEFICIENT, but won't allow you to buy OTC preparations without a prescription, then something isn't quite right [IMHO].

I have little doubt that oral IF preparations won't do much. Then again, we've all read about Minot & Murphy's research with raw liver, which saved the lives of numerous folks before we had pure B12. It's worth mentioning that the liver used won't have had IF in it. Then, Bill Castle's work with 'raw hamburger mince treated with normal gastric juice' showed that his experiments used in effect 'oral IF'. But what could we possibly know?

This is an interesting tid bit.

"Dr. Newcastle found that he could regurgitate his gastric juices and feed it to his patients. This took the place of daily liver, and these people improved. But he could not keep a steady supply, so they continued to eat liver."

Yuck. But the alternative was worse. Imagine.

Oh, thanks for that; that's a new one on me. I love these stories.

Nowadays we need 'Ethical Approval' for clinical trials, and I really don't know how you'd put this to the Ethics Committee! "You want to do WHAT?" Go against them and you get struck off. Then again, Dr Tom Allinson proposed that wholemeal bread was what we all needed, and got struck off for that. [Well, the advertising for his wholemeal bread from his wholemeal flour from his own watermill won't have helped his case, but I think we're probably of one mind about wholemeal bread nowadays.

That does seem promising. I found several brands and plenty for pets. Lol. DC labs called Biotrinsic, with intrinsic, methyl and folate. It makes sense, this would work to some degree. If it's not great, maybe they are working on one that is better. Maybe a stronger dose? 🀞

Great discussion here and great comments. I get worn out trying to figure out what works. Is it BAM which bile acid supplements would treat or is it IF and I need IF supplements. I guess I need to experiment. As I understand, tests are unavailable (BAM in US) or inaccurate (IF). I'm still going to look into the test for BAM in the US and see if I can get it. I feel overwhelmed some days and other days, good enough to start trying to solve it. Again, this forum and ALL the people here are amazing. I love the intelligent and even the emotional supportive discussions.
