Who do I approach for help about going private after a very badly administered injection has left me very weak without my treatment & my surgery won’t believe me despite photographic evidence the nurse involved denies having messed up even though she asked me not to tell anyone & has since retired

Assuming you’re in the UK my starting point would be to put the facts in a letter to the practice manager.

In what way was your injection messed up? As long as it’s gone in beneath skin deep it should work as it will either be absorbed into fat or into the muscle if it went in deeper.

Hi,

Link that may be useful.

CAB NHS Complaints

citizensadvice.org.uk/healt...

See section on Complaints about GPs which mentions nurses employed at GP surgeries.

If your symptoms are returning before next injection due, you may be able to persuade GP to give you injections more frequently especially if you have neurological symptoms.

How often do you currently get them?

BNF Hydroxycobalamin

bnf.nice.org.uk/drug/hydrox...

See section on "neurological involvement" in above link if neuro symptoms are present.

Might be worth keeping a daily symptoms diary which tracks how symptoms change over time and if and when treatment is given. Can be useful evidence of improvement or deterioration in symptoms to show GP/specialist.

Private GPs

You could search online to see if there is a private GP in your area.

Some may offer B12 injections.

Some beauty clinics may offer B12 injections.

PAS (Pernicious Anaemia Society)

Based in Wales, UK.

There is a helpline number that PAS members can ring.

Your local private hospital may have a private GP but it would obviously involve the cost of a private consultation and subsequent private prescriptions , I know the private hospital in my area has details online of the doctors who work there and what they specialize in and the procedures they carry out including a General Practice doctor, once you have found one you could then ask about the cost of a consultation and take it from there if that was the route you wanted to go down I am not a medical person but I would think it would be expensive so would look into all the other advise given here and see if you can get better treatment at your own surgery first. I wish you Good Health and Good luck 😀
