Long post alert. Btw my first online medical post.
Itching all over body started way back 2010 . There was no rash or nothing. But worst itching. Even multiple bath it didn't go away. A clever doctor suggest that to take bath thrice. It continued. The struggle was not much. So managed
Later 2020 my feet alone started itching. Put tons of moisturizers. Only massaging worked. It's almost a daily event.Was prediabetic that time. So checked my blood sugar and it was 6.2.
At September 2020 I was 91 kg with 6.2 hba1c.
I started my journey towards reversing that.
At march the symptoms getting worse. Only itching. The first time neuropathy doubt came to my mind.
Went for another blood work.
At march 2021 I was 83.5 kg with 5.5 hba1c
With the great news I feel motivated and very sincere in my journey. Kept aside my neuropathy doubt.
I followed 80:20 diet. 80 percent veggies and fruits and Proteins. 20 percent carbohydrate and little comfort food.
I am not a vegetarian. But not much into non.vegetarian also. We never eat red meat. During the diet regimen I used more egg white than whole egg.
At the end of may I started having some tingling sensation. This is the first time I am having my B12 deficiency doubt. None of the great doctors suggest me to take the test ever.🙄
At June I went for blood work again.
My weight was 77.5 and hba1c was 4.8.
I jumped with joy. But my B12 was 166pg/ml.
The doctor pinned that as a reason. But asked me to get a counter top supplement and said he don't know much about the dosage because there are so many. What kind of doctor said that.
I thought it's easy to find the good one myself. I don't have any clue about B12. Because my multivitamin one a day has a recommended value. So I didn't bother much. But when I came to know that it's an ocean, I couldn't conclude which one.
1. First tried 2500 McG cyanocobalamin for one day, twice and heared about cyanide poisoning and drop that.
2. next day bought methylcobalamine 1000mcg sublingual and had two in the morning one in the evening.3000 McG.
I thought I will be alright within a week. After 10 days no improvement. In the meantime online forums made my pressure shoot up and called the doctor asked him for injection.
For my B12 at 166 he should know that I need urgent injection but he refused ( I think he is clueless about what B12 deficiency is doing) and gave me prescription for nerve soothing. I said I am ready to wait but all I need was a proper dosage recommendation or injection . He didn't even consider that.
So I was on my own again and I decide to stick with that dosage. On July I read about B12 drops and bought one in vitamin shoppe. And it was much easier and stick with that 3000 McG.
So for a month I was on 3000McG. Through out the period I was having my doubts that for me the B12 works or not so was in a constant confusion.
Never felt better. But calmed my mind and stick to the oral medication. Started eating all the B12 rich foods. I started connecting every disturbance in the body with B12.
After a week of B12 drops intake the night mare started around July 2 week. Feet started burning and hands too. Two days before only I found a peace with my feet itching. I learned to ignore and it started vanishing. But this burning started and took my peace away. I started 5000 McG drops , split into three times a day for 5 days. After that I feel good for two days. Then Monday 23 July it was worse. Immediately bought a online B12 test and went for it yesterday 24 July.
The result came today. B12 is now at 860 pg/ml. Within 46 days it shoots up from 166 to 860.
But the burning is still there at least now I am happy that my body at least absorb oral medication. All I did wrong was ignored the B12 for so long. Do did my doctors.
My doubt and question to you all is, do I need to fix an appointment with a doctor or I have to wait for the medication to start it's communication with the nerves?
Second can I lower my dosage?
P.s I couldn't able to enjoy my weight loss success story. I am down to 76 kg. Since June I didn't lose much because of stress and sleepless nights. Anyway reduced 15 kgs in 10 months from September 20 . I am in a great shape after 25 years and I couldn't celebrate it. It's been two months I laughed. B12 is serious guys. Please be alert.
