Is it normal to feel super tired after injection?

Hi guys,

I was recently diagnosed with PA following 2 positive intrinsic factor antibody tests. I had my first injection of B12 a couple of days ago and have felt super tired and a bit nauseous since.

Now I feel tired anyway most of the time, but its been worse this last couple of days.

Is this normal?

We often hear that when some patients start their treatment , they feel worse before they start to feel better .We have come to the conclusion that this is part of the healing process for some patients , not all. . So little research has been done on pernicious anaemia , that we are searching in the dark a lot of the time . But certainly this is what happens to some patients . I hope that someone who has been through this themselves will get in touch and put your mind at rest ,

Unfortunately people just respond so differently that there isn't a 'normal' but feeling tired and nauseous is a response that others have reported.

Hi JSD100,It is rather anecdotal. It is variable, maybe factors of age, how deficient you are and for how long (maybe).

I definitely felt worse whilst having loading doses. The body is going through a healing process.

I had a tough time in the loading phase

Try snd go with the flow and give your body a chance to heal

I still can get almost shutdown by an injection . Overall they have really helped keep the nastier symptoms away and got me walking again.

I think initially for me my body was overwhelmed as my level was quite low and neurological symptoms present.

I hope you get some benefits very soon.

I felt beyond exhausted when I did my loading shots and for a long time afterwards.

The difference for me was that it was what I would call a beautiful exhaustion instead of a constant wired exhaustion that I had for years before treatment.

What do you mean by beautiful exhaustion? Do you have your energy back now?

No, I don't. Not yet.

But the exhaustion I feel now is more pure and natural. That is the only way I can describe it. And it has improved over time, but regardless it is still there.

Before treatment for b12 I had a wired exhaustion. Where although constantly exhausted, sometimes I couldn't sleep or even relax. It felt edgy. And went on for years.

Any exhaustion is not desirable, but I will take post-treatment hands down and back around.

Well 15 years of having B12 injections and I'm still exhausted Sleep 12 hours at night and can do another 2 or 3 during the day.

Absolutely no relief.

So as has already been said we all react very differently.
