Will abdominal pain improve with vit b12 injections,?

Really struggling with nausea and gripey abdominal pain.had 1 injection 6 weeks ago, felt better but neuro problems and gastric issues back. I feel worn out. Next jab due April 1st. Thanks for listening

When I was first diagnosed with P.A. , I had “gut” problems . i.e. Stomach pain, bloating , nauseous reflux , and burping . Doctors were no help with this at all It is well known ( not amongst doctors though) , that P.A. causes low/no stomach acid , Hypochlorhydria/ Achlorhydria, due to the fact that the Parietal cells which produce the Intrinsic Factor and stomach acid , are destroyed by the I,F. antibodies . The stomach flora ( good bacteria ) are upset by this lack of acid , and therefore bad bacteria takes over , causing gut problems . I took a course of a probiotic preparation called Symprove for about 3 months ( a water-based probiotic ) . This cleared up the problem . My health was improving at this time as well, because I was self -injecting with B12 . This was about 6 years ago . Just once, the gut problems started to re-occur ,and I bought a bottle of Symprove ,and was back to normal in no time . This was my experience. So I suggest that you try a probiotic course. Even if it is not for you, you will have done yourself no harm . I also used to eat organic sauerkraut , kefir , real yoghurt,and kimchi , all probiotic fermented foods which one can actually make oneself . .

I also drink diluted organic cider vinegar with the mother ( an enzyme) with a main meal . Some people with no stomach acid use Betaine hydrochloric acid with pepsin capsules . This capsule needs careful administration with perhaps advice from a nutritionist .

Also eating in a relaxed atmosphere , and chewing really thoroughly ( saliva contains valuable enzymes to start the digestive process) helps a lot . I also cut down on red meat , which is the most difficult food to digest and needs an acidic stomach . Fish and chicken are more easily broken down .

Thanks Wedgwood, that is helpful. I do take biocult but there seems to be a lot of positive responses to symprove so I will try it. I just want to feel better! Did you take symprove as well as apple cider vinegar?

Yes , I did , because they do different things ! The Symprove provides good bacteria which then starts to see off the bad , and the good can then dominate . The cider vinegar - diluted , provides some acid . My gut is so very very much better now that I rarely take the cider vinegar . The problems have gone away . I don’t take Symprove any more either . Do look up Achlorhydria diet though . You doctor will tell you that there is no test for a low acid stomach ( there is ) The doctors know nothing about low acid stomachs and the trouble they cause . They too readily treat gut problems with PPIs Symprove is unfortunately expensive , but for me it was marvellous .

Is it gluten free as it mentions it being live bacteria is a barley extract

Yes it is gluten and dairy free . It’s expensive unfortunately . l tried other probiotics , but this was the one that did the trick for me .

thanks, yes expensive but less than I paid for a private endo appointment who was useless! I'll look at it that way. My stomach improved when I started upping my B12 injection frequency to every other day, but I dropped down to once a week - stupidly took notice of a neurologist and now my stomach has been much worse .I keep daily records (which according to one consultants labels me as having severe health anxiety). I think getting my injections at the right frequency is important and trying Symprove as well. Nothing to lose.

Absolutely ! You are now in possession of much more information . At least you know that you cannot overdose on B12 , ( my doctor told me that too much was toxic when I said that I would have to self -inject because my symptoms returned well before the 3 monthly injection ) Also look up a diet for Achlorhydria , which is what P.A. patients have ( Low/ no stomach acid ) Eat smaller meals more often and very important — CHEW THOROUGHLY . The enzymes in our saliva get to work on the food better if it’s chewed thoroughly .Very best wishes .

Thank you, I do need to slow down on eating, I have always been a gobbler! I will have to look up those diets, not sure how to make smaller meals more often as I am old school , age 72, 3 meals a day, hardly ever eat snacks in between. thanks again.

Have you had loading doses? Sounds like this being under treated.

Have you tried cider vinegar or lemon juice near the end of a meal?

Pribiotics help some too.

I sip jamaican string ginger beer fir nausea.

Eat little and often.

J hope tih get more b12

Write or ring saying you need more treatment.

Thanks nackerpan.no I didn't get loading doses as doctor said 167 was borderline. I rang today to book next jab and as it was due on 2nd April, Easter.i asked could I have it on 1st as I am feeling rotten and was told I would have to wait till 6th as nurses insist patients come on exact date or after!!!! They finally agreed to let me have it on the 1st. Thanks everyone for support

My initial numbers were 172 and I was given weekly doses. We've never stopped them, since discussing I don't want my pain to return and the fatigue returns after a few days. He would probably allow me to go twice a week if I asked, but it makes me insomnia the first night and I don't want two sleepless nights a week.

I take kefir daily (from the Polish section of Tesco, very pricey otherwise). and try to eat 'clean' it's really helped me. Hope you feel better soon ♥️

I had terrible ‘ibs’ for years until my deficiency was discovered. Every other day injections completely stopped any problems with so called ibs symptoms. It was like flicking a switch as I’ve had no problems at all since and was in regular and severe pain before being treated. I take probiotics daily and kefir etc as often as possible and I’m convinced they help too, but it was the injections that made the huge difference. Maybe you could ask for more regular injections? I wish I’d known about and tested my deficiency earlier as I could have avoided years of stomach pain. I wish you the best.

I’m in the same boat .. I have PA but I think it’s the gastritis that causes the stomach pain so whilst you need the injections for other symptoms they won’t have an impact on the stomach pain. At least not for me they don’t. So everything that’s already been mentioned is what I try to do and I’ve just started on symprove. If you go direct to their website you get a month free and it’s a 3 month course. I was on a keto diet to try to loose weight but the diet caused me a lot of pain .. so now it’s high fibre minimum meat and low sugar.. not sure if dairy is an issue some people do suffer .. also check out the FODMAP diet as others have had success .. I’ve not done that yet.. going to try symprove and heathy eating first ! Good luck.. I know it gets you down !

It would help if you were having more frequent injections as they’re too far apart but in most cases it’s near impossible for your GP to agree unless you self inject, most people are not treated properly and doctors don’t know much about PA unfortunately. In the meantime you may want to try Symprove as someone suggested.

Also try smaller meals more frequently or as it suits you and an adjustment of diet.

Fresh ginger tea should help with nausea and stomach pain.

Thank every one. I bought cider vinegar(with the mother) today to try. Still have Biokult capsules to finish then if no improvement i will try symprove. Thanks everyone🙏🙏
