Vitamin b12 and nausea

Hi all, I was recently diagnosed with B 12 deficiency about a month ago I just had my second injection over the course of two months, recently started feeling nauseous consistently. Could this be a symptom of the deficiency or has anyone else experienced this?

How long do you think you were deficient before being diagnosed?

The vagus nerve goes between the brain and the stomach. If it was damaged by the deficiency, then getting B12 should be reparing it.

The stronger signals to the brain, in my case, cause hunger after each injection. But others have experienced nausea.

This symptom may actually be a “good” indication that the nerve damage is being repaired. The brain however is confused by the stronger signal and interprets them as nausea.

The severity of the symptom may also indicate how low you got before the injection. This would also indicate that you may need more frequent injections.

Do you supplement with folic acid and a daily multivitamin as well? These support B12 in metabolism as well as nerve repair.

Start a logbook of symptoms and record your own daily severity score of your neurological and psychological symptoms. start at day zero with each injection. You will begin to see a pattern of symptoms follow the injection. Once you recognize the pattern of the “good” symptoms, that unfortunately mimic the “bad” ones which occur before your injection, you get some control back and can relax and stop worrying about them. This allows the brain to recalibrate faster to the stronger signals and the symptoms disappear in a shorter period of time.

Convincing yourself that these are actually “good” and are really illusions is the hardest part.

For me the headache and irritability after the injection was difficult to manage.

Thank you for all of this info. My level was 152 and I was probably low for quite some time, maybe a year? One of the other major symptoms I had was burning skin senasation all over. My doctor said this was normal. That has gotten a bit better but it seems like the left side of my head/scalp is sore and slightly burning. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s a headache from the inside or the skin on the outside? Does this sound familiar? Any pain in my head makes me nervous. Thank you!

For me, the headache is inside. It is like my brain is on overdrive after the B12 injection.

I’m now on weekly cyano injections and it does not occur or at least the severity is not noticeable.

I think the intensity is directly proportional to how low my B12 level was before the injection.

Stress and worry seem to consume B12 and I run out sooner between injections if I’m stressed.

I supplement with daily methyl sublinguals to get through meetings and commute.

Once you get your B12 level stable, by this I mean, you are getting frequent enough injections and supplements to make up for the B12 you are consuming and sending down the toilet, since the recycling mechanism in the gut is broken.

Hi , yes I had really bad nausea and vomiting for the first 3 years after being diagnosed ,sometimes it went on for hours and used to wake me in the night or early hours . None of the anti sickness pills worked nor the pre and pro biotics that I tried but over the course of time I started eating fermented foods and making sure I had watered down orange or lemon juice with breakfast and dinner and this seemed to help, then I started SI once a month and this also seemed to help. I still get some nausea 7 years on but it is much improved. Good luck and best wishes

My level was 65 when I was first diagnosed ,I did have a kind of tightness and heavy feeling in my head for quite sometime but scans did not show anything to worry about but it did worry me for a while ,still get it from time to time , have not had any burning sensation that I can remember but lots of other symptoms ,you kind of get to know your body as time goes on and everyone looks for ways to try and help them selves to feel a little better like good diet and knowing when not to over do things or using sprays and supplements, we each seem to have to find our own way. This site has been a great help to me and it always helps to talk to someone who has had similar things going on

Hope you start to feel better soon
