Upper-right abdominal pain as a result of AAG?

Dear always-helpful members of this community — I have yet another set of questions for you.

Four times in the past two months, with the most recent extending 6 days (last Monday through Saturday), I’ve had a tender upper-right abdomen just below the rib cage. It’s a consistent, constant pain each time, though on some days it’s more of a 3/10 than a 5/10; I can definitely function, but not entirely happily, and it hurts to sneeze and lie down.

A doctor referred me for an ultrasound, which came back normal (whew); my GP then referred me to a gastroenterologist, though since the pain has since gone away and I’m so tired (!!) of going to doctor’s appointments, I haven’t scheduled that visit yet.

By chance, I also discovered on Friday that I’ve lost some weight completely unintentionally (if anything, I’d expected to gain some, and was fine with that — have not changed diet at all despite burning considerably fewer calories), which momentarily freaked me out.

What’s the likelihood that this is just normal autoimmune atrophic gastritis stuff? Do any of you have any tips on how to handle AAG (besides eating fermented foods — check!) or any experience with any of the things I’m noticing (abdominal pains, fatigue after even light meals, sudden weight loss, etc.)?

You need to see the gastroenterologist. Anything else will be guessing. And it’s not a good idea to guess about your health,

Thanks for reading and replying -- yes, sigh, I guess I know I should see someone. I'm just so tired of going to the doctor.

But I know that everyone here is probably just as tired of it, so I just need to get my stamina up, I think!

I have had the same pain (sometimes worse than others) right under my rib on and off for years. They checked my liver and gallbladder & pancreas but found nothing! I’ve never found out what is it and just ended up living with it now.

I have a similar pain that has been investigated, scan was ok (but found something unrelated) and a colonoscopy last year found nothing of significance. I have gained girth though! I was prescribed omeprazole but knowing what effect they had on my hubby I don’t take them. The pain is on the right side under my ribs. I will just have to live with it!

Best wishes.

I had the same thing for months and like most people had the scans the colonoscopy etc and no cause found,at its worst it was like a knife going up into my ribs.It started just after I started hrt and vagifem so I stopped that as I was also getting other side effects but now 2 years later I still get it occasionally and when I do now I take Rennes wind tablets for trapped wind,Not the indigestion ones.

I know it sounds too simplistic but they seem to do the trick and sometimes I can feel that feeling of little air bubbles under the skin so it could well be trapped air pockets but I know how distressing it can be and very painful so anything’s worth a try and it won’t harm you.

Good luck x
