Feeling tired again?

Hi, everyone — I’m wondering if you all might have some insight here. I started B12 injections and iron supplementation last August. Since then, lots of my symptoms have improved: I no longer suffer from specific neuropathies (it used to feel like a wasp was stinging my toe!), I don’t have the daily headaches, etc.

For a while, I also felt like I had more energy (I spent last summer leaving and then returning to bed), but lately I’ve been dropping off for the night right at 10:30 p.m., exhausted, getting up at 7 for work, and still having to nap for over an hour every afternoon. It’s a LOT of sleep for a formerly athletic and healthy 30-year-old, I feel.

I know the common recommendation is to self-inject as needed, but as I qualify for monthly injections here in the U.S., I feel more fortunate than most. Also, my B12 was never “that” low (248). Is my level of fatigue normal for PA? Am I maybe just lazy, or could the naps be compromising my sleep quality in ways I don’t currently understand? Maybe it’s the iron and not the B12? How quickly do iron levels drop from crazy highs? (I got an infusion in September that brought my ferritin up to 667 (!), which is its own issue.)

No you are not lazy. You have done very well to be functioning at the level you are.

Get bloods done to see where your folate is vit d. ect

Having PA or a b12 deficiency compromises activity levels at times. Or all the time for some.

Try after getting checked going with the flow and hopefully you will regain some more energy.

Your body simply has to work harder to function.

I find personally if I 'push through' as I used to be able to really sets me back.

So accept your nap fir now.

My daughter your age struggles too.

Certainly not lazy or work shy !!

It takes a few years to become deficient. As Nackapan says, don’t push too hard. It will get better slowly but surely. Check all your vitamin levels and rest when you need to. We all have good and bad days on the road to recovery. I felt fine yesterday but tired. Asleep by 8pm and slept round to 6 am. I guess I needed it!
