Self treatment for PA

Like so many PA sufferers I now do my own IM jabs. For me this has been very easy on a practical level. I have enough medical knowledge being a retired physiologist. However I have not as yet informed my GP surgery. My B12 jabs were at 2 monthly intervals on the recommendation of a Haematologist and my symptoms. My last Gp jab was on Jan 31 this year, I was due again on 2 April. Of course this appointment was cancelled with no follow up due to the Covid -19 pandemic. All understandable. Last week a enquired when they would be resuming the “ routine” appointments, they don’t know, Waite to be informed was the answer. So now I am duty bound to write to inform them of the medical negligence. Thanks to advice from the PA society I feel supported. I know I must take action for all those in a similar situation even though I have self helped. So the question is; do I tell them I’m self injection? I feel I should keep this to myself for now. I heard that they may well stop the 2 monthly, and then I’m total on my own . If any one also has information about the funding /cost issue for the b12 jabs as I’m hearing government funds are axed for vitamins including our life saving B12! Just for interest , I have a genetic link to this deficiency, both parents needs B12 , my father collapsed and nearly died ,bloodless while in a nursing home 2 years after he was placed there. He was hospitalised and given transfusions. I’m convinced his withdrawal of B12 jabs hastened his dementia and was truly pernicious.

I still am receiving my NHS injections

I however self i ject with a prescription also with stuff I've bought.

I've not told my Gp about 'the extra ones'

Perhaus in tour letter tiy coukd mention that many are driven to buy their own? .

Its helped some get them back

Very sad about tour dad.

I think it wise to keep it on tour medical notes. Whatever you write will be scanned onto your notes. Symptoms relapse ect.

Hope you get them back.

Your doctor is not fulfilling in hos duty of care.

He is being negligent and needs reporting in my view

Thank you, you echo my thoughts, I must say I don’t want my condition to be forgotten or ignored by the Gp if I take full control. It is a basic duty of care failure by them.

No, funding has not been stopped for B12 injections. My GP still lets me have two ampoules a month (for me to inject myself).
