Losing my Internist!! Self injected first time today!

Today was stressful beyond belief. Had my oncologist appointment today and was informed my internist has put in his resignation at the medical practice! I will have one last visit with him on November 10th. His last day is November 30th. This was devastating news to me but my Oncologist, who has been with me from day one and I see more than my internist, assured me he is going to take care of things and for me not to worry. He is going to hand pick another Internist (not a GP) that works well with him at the medical center I go to. I was still almost in tears when this wonderful Oncologist explained to me that he also has PA as does one of his nurses and he has become a specialist in this blood disorder. He assured me I'm not being thrown to the wolves. He also keeps both himself and his nurse on B12 every two weeks as that seems to be the optimum rather than once a month injections that other doctors seem to follow. He said he knows first hand how important keeping levels of B12 are and that is also why he runs full lab work on me every 6 weeks to ensure all is in balance. I then explained with winter just around the corner and my living in a remote forest how difficult it would be to make it every 2 weeks so he took me by the hand and I was taught to self inject B12 and given a one month prescription to keep on hand for when I cannot make it out of the woods during snow storms. It was super easy and painless. I have no issue self injecting at all and feel less tied down to making these long treks to the medical clinic when we have winter storms. I hope anyone else out there who is contemplating self injecting takes some hope that if I could do this they could too!

(You're not anywhere near these terrible storms I hope)

No clivealive! I'm almost to the Canadian Border in upstate New York! However my son lives just an hour north of the Florida border so I am watching these storms diligently. Thank you for all your support when I first started in this journey! I'm still keeping active in this forum as it's a great lifeline! You all do a wonderful job with your comments, advice and knowledge.

Hi,

Hope you can put the stress behind you and look forward to getting the treatment you need.

Wonderful that your oncologist understands PA and that he knows the standard level of treatment does not work for everyone.

It is again a situation whereby a person understands the condition if they also have it but it ishould not require a fellow sufferer to render understanding and treatment.

Agreed Retren. However my original internist who I'm losing is just as caring and very understanding of the treatment I need. He had such passion for healing and compassion for his patients. I lucked out on both these amazing physicians. I have had many bad and uncaring physicians in my 65 years and every now and then you hit upon a great one. Have hope and don't lose faith. If unhappy with one doctor keep looking until you find one that has those qualities you are looking for and need. i wish you well and the best of luck on your quest for proper treatment.

CH52 I seem to have caused a misunderstanding I was replying to another post. I do,t really care as long as they are knowledgeable and about my problems.it is a bonus if they have a bedside manner which seems to be omitted from medical schools these days.
