Got recent blood test results from GP who said my ferritin was high and she wants to do a tranferrin saturation test to make sure its not iron overload. Apparently iron overload can cause same symptoms as PA (although not diagnosed myself it does run in my family) and fibromyalgia (diagnosed 2013), eg neuro pain, muscle aches, fatigue, brain fog etc.
Has anyone else heard of this?

Hi there sorry I can’t give you any advice on this except to say my ferritin is high at 499 last test,I’ve been tested for haemochromotosis which came back negative.
I don’t know what it is right now as I can’t get the tests redone during lockdown so it’ll be a while before I can monitor the level.
If you look on the right hand column you can have a read at the various Posts discussing ferritin levels or type it in n the search bar.good luck x
Ferritin is stored iron and when raised can indicate inflammation somewhere in the body. Raised Ferritin does not always mean the serum iron is optimal - so yes a full iron Profile would be good.
Was your B12 - Folate and VitD also tested ?
Fibromyalgia can be linked to low thyroid - have you been correctly tested ? TSH - FT4 - FT3 and anti-bodies TPO & Tg - to rule out Hashimotos ?
Marz thanks for this. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's in 2013 but struggled for a very long time (probably a good 8 years) beforehand with TSH at the very top of the range but not outside it, and even though TPO antibodies were high, I was not offered treatment. It only got properly diagnosed as my rheumatologist asked for a thyroid panel along with the tests she was requesting for fibromyalgia, because I told her about the antibodies.
I noticed your post on the Fibro Forum about similar symptoms with Fibro and iron overload. There are tests to confirm your Iron Status. Also the correct thyroid testing would confirm your thyroid status. Symptoms of Fibro and low thyroid are also similar.
There is a Thyroid UK Forum here on HU - come and join us - where you will learn so much and receive very positive help with your thyroid and vitamins and minerals.
I was diagnosed with Fibro in 2000 - Hashimotos in 2005 in Greece - joined Thyroid UK in 2011 and began to take control of my own health ... happy to help 😷
