Hi I am taking a multivitamin which has following composition. Vitamin B12 1500mcg + Vitamin B9 1.5mg + Vitamin B6 3mg + Vitamin D3 1000 IU + Alpha lipoic acid 100mg

Can I take this daily for lifetime. I mean can I get vitamin toxicity if I pursue this for long term

I have B12 deficiency and feel horrible after injection, my B12 numbers goes up even when I am on this Oral multivitamin hence just exploring if I can take this lifetime

The amount of B9 (folate) in there is above what some people would recommend for daily intake ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/268.... If you do decide to stick with these do not take any additional folic acid.

Thanks for your advise! Ya I think I am taking slightly higher folate, heard that high B12 offsets some folate, and as it's water soluble, extra should be flushed out..

But I will watch out for any other folate supplementation..

No. Taking extra B12 doesn’t increase the need for folate. That’s a common myth spread by a wrong and dangerous FaceBook group.

Another common, and wrong, myth is that anything water soluble is safe. Hydrogen cyanide is water soluble.

Thanks for sharing your insight! I will try to find a substitute for 1.5 mg of folate.

For time being, I guess I have to live with it.

I'm no expert but my GP advises that I only take my folate every second day. My doseage is 5mg.x

Hi Riseup01 you will not "overdose" on B12 as any excess to requirement is excreted via your urine.

Folic acid is also to be found in many breakfast cereals nowadays so check the side panels for details.

I wish you well.

Ignore the scaremongers, your nutrient intake is fine lol.

I would recommend to you though, that when it comes to B vitamins, at least with B2, B6, B12 & Folic Acid/Folate, go for the methylated versions. These are already in a form your body can make immediate use from. They have already begun the conversion process as they are already 'activated'. Side effects are known to occur with B6 but not with Pyridoxal 5'Phosphate. Pyridoxine Hydrochloride can build up and cause the same symptoms as a deficiency. Numbness in the extremities. It builds up unmetabolised for some people. For some people seem to have difficulty converting the non-active, cheap form into the activated form.

Your B9 or Folic Acid 1.5mg is no biggy. No need to take more though.

Also, Unlike Nicotinamide (or Niacinamide), Nicotinic Acid which is the natural form of B3 can cause flushing or blushing & a tingling effect at doses of 100mg or above.

Don't be afraid. This is quite normal and safe (though a little uncomfortable). But the best thing about this form of B3 is that it can lower Cholesterol! Personally, I threw away my horrid Stattin meds and chose Nicotinic acid instead. My Cholesterol reading is near perfect now! I take 2g of Nicotinic Acid daily.

Methyl-Folate is also good for allergy sufferers while simple (cheap) Folic Acid can increase histamine to extraordinary levels and even thought by some to cause a syndrome called Histadelia in a minority! This can cause all sorts of neurological disorders including depression and even psychotic breaks. It is rare but there have been many documented cases over the years.

I suggest you look up Orthomolecular medicine.

Riboflavin 5'Phosphate is the active form of B2 (riboflavin) & Methylcobalamin is the active form of B12. Your 1500mcg of B12, normally as Cyanocobalamin is ok but I highly recommend you choose a product with the methylated B vits. You only need a small fraction of that amount for the same bioavailability.

Your Vitamin D levels are no issue, you could even take more if you live high above the equator or don't get much sunlight on your skin. Personally I currently take 8-10,000iu.

My Neuro-Psychiatrist recommended this amount.

100mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid is a pretty small dose, though not bad for a multi. I take a 500mg pill every morning. Take it with 500-750mg of ALCAR (Acetyl-L-Carnitine) for best results.

The best form is called Bio-Enhanced® Na-RALA (Na R-ALA is the sodium salt form of R-Lipoic Acid. It is heat stable with high solubility and absorption). Ignore simple RALA (R-Lipoic Acid). It's been shown to b no more bioavailable than standard ALA.

I must point out a major point regarding RDAs and RNVs. These amounts are nothing, perhaps just enough to prevent a deficiency but hardly an OPTIMAL amount!

Even the fat-soluble vitamin RDAs & RNVs are pathetic. 5mcg of vitamin D? 10mg of Vitamin E? And how often do you see vitamin K in a supplement? Not often enough!

Don't forget your minerals! They are just as important as vitamins and work hand-in-hand with each other. The RDAs & RNVs for minerals are actually more realistic, it is more about balance with minerals. You want to take ANY individual high dose nutrient AWAY from food and other supplements. Especially minerals as they compete for absorption.

And go for 'chelated' minerals (pronounced "key-lated"). They are bound to organic well-absorbed substances like amino acids and other common foodstuffs. Examples of inorganic versions would be Ferrous Fumarate (iron), Zinc oxide or sulphate or calcium carbonate. Instead go for Amino Acid Chelate, Gluconate, Bis-glycinate, Picolinate & Citrate forms.

If you want to know where you can get all of these nutrients I've mentioned just message me. I've been buying supplements & researching them for over 20 years. And I keep finding gold mine after gold mine of great nutrients and info to back up their claims.

Not what you're looking for?
