Hi - I have read that it is a good idea to take a GOOD B complex to keep all the B's in balance when having B12 injections. I take Thorne Research B complex and it contains methylfolate and not folic Acid. You may wish to research Folic Acid v Methylfolate. Multi-vitamins are often a good thing to take - depending on your age/absorption. Do not worry about there being B12 in them as it is water soluble and will be excreted :-)

It may be good to have your VitD tested as most people seem deficient/insufficient these days. Many are also deficient in Magnesium - so yes a GOOD Multivitamin would be a good thing to take ensuring it has good levels of minerals too .....

I have lived in Crete for 11 years and still tested insufficient :-(

Hope you soon feel well....

Yes it's a good idea to take at least methylfolate as B12 needs folate to work properly but the b complex is also good as recommended above

I take both for a couple of days around injection time

Hope you feel better soon 😊

A haematologist recommended to me to only use an OTC mult vitamin as all is then in balance and you will not over dose on any one particular vitamin.

Have you found an OTC multivitamin with folate instead of folic acid?

in reply toBabsJean

Folate is the natural form only found in food, vegetables etc.

there are no known downsides to keeping B12 levels high.

If you are receiving injections then that means you have a problem with absorbing B12 and to be honest the levels of B12 in multi-vitamins aren't very high when compared to the amount of B12 in a shot so don't worry about the fact that the multivitamins contain B12.

As others have said you need folate to absorb and use B12.

B6 is a vitamin to be careful with - but think it would probably be rare for the amount in a multi-vit to be getting up to the danger levels - recommended upper limits tend to vary but 100mg daily over several months has been linked to neuro problems.

Not what you're looking for?
