Hi, am asking for some advice, last year ended up ventilated on ITU with sepsis. My Hb had dropped to 6.1 and was transfused I was given one of injection of b12 evening though I am out of reference range on b12 vit d iron folate. My hb is 9.3 and has not climbed since last August. They are talking about sending me to gastroenterologist but I would like them to bring b12 into normal range as well as iron and folate before they start shoving cameras down my throat. Could anyone give a bit of advice I would be most grateful

Sorry to hear you've been so poorly. Yes I would personally get B12 levels up and other bloods back to normal levels before more investigations unless urgent. Otherwise you will get so weak and may get B12 defiency symptoms. If absorbtion an issue ask for injections if out of range. Discuss with your doctor.
The explorations are likely to relate to trying to find out what exactly is causing the problems with your iron and B12 levels so it is a bit chicken and egg. Low iron is generally either due to an absorption problem or to a bleed somewhere. B12 absorption tends to be due to damage to specific areas in the ileum.
The investigation, unpleasant though it may be, is likely to be the quickest way of getting to what is actually going on.
