Hydroxocobalamin in Germany

Hi All,

I just came back to Germany from India to start my job after 8 months. I used to take methycobalamin 500 mcg in India. In Germany there is hydroxocobalamin in Apotheke and no methycobalamin. The pharmacist says it’s depot hydroxocobalamin type and it’s function is different from normal ones. I am checking with Arnika pharmacy for Methycobalamin. In mean while is it ok to use Depot hydroxocobalamin. Please advise

I and many others on this forum , use Rotexmedica B12

(hydroxocobalamin) Depot .:it works very well and the only difference to the Hevert Depot Hydroxocobalamin is that it comes as a1mg x 1 ml ampoule and the Hevert comes as a 1mg x2ml ampoule . I have used Hevert in the past , but I now prefer to inject less liquid . Another reason is that Rotexmedica B12 Depot ampoules are somewhat cheaper than the Hevert . Both are readily available on all German online Pharmacies . Often cheaper than a physical pharmacy , with free delivery if you spend over a certain amount , but only if delivered to a German address .

Arnika in Munich do not have an online site for non-professionals . ( It mostly supplies professional Homeopathic practitioners) , but they will supply Methylcobalamin ampoules , if you Email them or phone them with your requirements . Their ampoules are 1mg x 2ml . I don’t know if they do

500mcg ampoules , But I don’t think so.

I have used Methylcobalamin in the past, but found no advantage in it over Hydroxocobalamin . Methylcobalamin is much more expensive than Hydroxocobalamin. , but if it had proven. better in any way , I would have used it .

It is definitely OK to use Hydroxocobalamin Depot . I believe it is called depot , as that distinguishes it from another type of injectable B12 called Cynocobalamin. Hydroxocobalamin succeeded Cynocobalamin. some years ago . Hydroxocobalamin reputedly stays in the system for longer. Cyno works successfully for some P.A. patients .It is the cheapest form of injectable B12 . It is commonly used in the USA .

Best wishes .

Hydroxocobalamin is just as good as, if not better than, methylcobalamin.

Thanks for that good link . Should help people who become convinced that Methycobalamin is superior to Hydroxocobalamin. . I must say that there was a time when I first heard about it , that I felt I had to a try it , to help my numb feet. But it made mo difference .at all, even after months.

Yes , I read about the methyl myths. So I tried methylcobalamin - once. It made me feel terrible.

Do you mean 5000mcg - 5mg strength? That’s what I take of methylcobalamin and has been great but everyone different

I use 500 mcg methycobalamin never saw 5000 mcg in injection form. I have 5000 mcg sublingual which again doesn’t work.

I had no idea that Methylcobalamin ampoules came in such massive doses .Where on earth do you get those from ? I have learned that an Australian site sells Methylcobalamin in 500mcg x 2 ml ampoules ( Japanese manufacturer).

vitaminb12online.com

Pack of 10 for £34.50 , free postage .

Arnika ampoules come in 1000 mcg (1mg) or 5000 mcg (5mg)

I don’t purchase direct from arnika tho - get from:

skinbrighton.co.uk/b12-inje...

Not sure that arnika will sell 5mg strength direct to public but worth a try if looking to potentially cut costs.

2ml ampoules

Why are they so expensive in Europe. In India each 1000 mcg methycobalamin ampoules is around 1 euro. 20 percent discount on purchase of 10 ampoules or more.

Think you pay more for prescription etc in UK and not sure you can sell here unless patient is under doctor supervision- cheaper from German pharmacies I understand. I get from UK as only inject monthly atm but def worth following some of the links for hydro if need more frequently or price too high. Always used methylcobalamin personally and had great response but lots of people on here seem to have good experience with hydro.

Strange for me then. I first started cyanacobalamin and then hydroxocobalamin. Both of them did not work as expected. I changed to methycobalamin after one month and after three injections of 500 mcg I started feeling much better. Lot of symptoms disappeared and continuing for 2 months now. We get both 500 and 1000 mcg methycobalamin in India. I tried hydroxocobalamin in between and it did not seem to work as the symptoms started appearing again. So for now I am continuing methycobalamin which I brought from India (now in Germany to start my job again after 8 months of pain from PA). I will try hydroxocobalamin in Germany(hope this different from the ones in India as it’s less than 10 cents per 1000mcg ampoule in India ). I have appointment with my doctor today to discuss on hydroxocobalamin and let me see what he advises

Just back from doctor. Doctor referred me to gastroenterologist opinion as PA and helicobacter Pyroli requires 2 yearly endoscopy and colonoscopy. He agreed for hydroxocobalamin given under insurance and breath test for Helicobacter as it’s 6 months since the antibiotic Therapy completed

This all going back to where it started. Doctor did b12 test and says it is beyond range and he doesn’t prescribe b12 anymore. I have already informed him that I am taking b 12 injections every alternate day and he is least bothered. Nevertheless I take self injections.
