Anaemia check - Medichecks results

Hello,

I did a Medichecks anaemia check a few weeks ago as I was feeling pretty terrible and have suffered with low B12 in the past. The test results came back fine but after close inspection some of the results are nearing the borderlines. I wonder if anyone could explain what the readings mean? I'm only listing the ones that I'm concerned about as the others are in the middle. The only thing I have been supplementing with is hair, skin & nails tablets & vit D. I have Hashi's, colitis & endometriosis. Thx Jo.

UIBC - 28.8 (24.2-70.1)

Transferrin Saturation - 44.86 (20-50)

Ferritin - 140 (13-150)

Vitamin B12 Active - 167 (37.5 - 188)

Your Mean Cell Volume is towards the high end and your Mean Cell Haemaglobin is also up there. Both can be caused by low B12 or low folate. Your Active B12 is very high, so it's unlikely to be that.

Have you had your folate tested? If not it might be worth trying folic acid, 400 mcg a day.

Yes my folate is 15.27 (3.89-19.45). When I’ve had the normal B12 test it is very low so I don’t know why my active B12 is high.
