Different types of B12

My body doesn’t seem to be absorbing the hydroxycobalamin injections I am receiving and I am wondering if methylcobalamin injections would suit me better. The hydroxy stays very high in my bloodstream like 4,000 and I still feel washed out. Any comments on this please?

Hi Firefly43 do you know what your Folate level is as this works with your B12 and iron to make red blood cells?

Also is your Vitamin D level O.K?

Nice photograph.

You are absorbing 100% of your hydroxocobalamin injections.

There is no known reason why methylcobalamin would work any better than hydroxocobalamin.

How long have you been receiving injections? Have you had other possible causes of your symptoms checked - folate? Thyroid? Diabetes?

People do respond quite differently to different types of B12 so it may be worth trying but methyl is much less stable than hydroxo so is going to be more expensive - it is also very heat sensitive so if buying on line conditions of transport could be an issue.

Levels in blood post loading injections don't necessarily mean very much and many people do need to maintain much higher levels post loading shots.

How long have you been on B12 injections? and how frequently do you have them?

Please, also note that feed from HU appears on some public sites - you may want to remove the image of yourself or think about making this post private so it doesn't go into external feeds.

You need to get folate and ferritin levels checked too plus vit d.

These all need to be at optimum levels not just in range.

They normally recommend you take folate when you are having b12 injections (the amount depends on how often you inject). Do you also take a general b complex as having injections and but the other b vitamins out of sync. I bought the one from Holland & Barrett make sure it has a maximum of 10mg of b6 (as can be toxic) take it for 4 moths then have 2 motnhs off ( to avoid b6 toxicity).
