It's me again. So my controlled coeliac disease could be the cause of my b12 deficiency but if this is the case then surely I should be deficient in other vitamins and minerals. When I first got diagnosed my HB was low as I didn't absorb iron from my food. So confused. Can anyone shed any light on this please and thankyou

Howe I understand it is unfortinnately when you have one autoimmune problem you are susceptible to others. Absorption problems happen with manyou conditions. It seems more common to have aneamia with b12 defiency. I have not but seem to be in the 25% that don't. Other vitamins may be absorbed by another process. On here people have said that b12 treatment uses more folate and magnesium whilst you are repairing.

I for some reason presumably just stopped producing enough stomach acid to process B12. Stress stops you absorbing loads too. Because tests are not clear cut it is very confusing.

I'm 4 weeks post loading dose . Have a long way to go yet. Waiting for best repair. Hope you get on okay.

I have B12 injections because of Crohn's Disease, I understand that B12 is only absorbed in one very specific area of intestine and I do not know if others are only absorbed there. My luck is, that is one of the few areas I am so badly damaged. Up until my last flare, my areas of damage were only in areas that took back the fluid (right at the end of the system) so B12 all I have been told about. As a just in case I pop in a general B and a D supplement (do not get out much) and hope they are absorbed!!!
