Lamotrigine and Vitamin K2

Does anyone take Lamotrigine for epilepsy and vitamin K2?

I heard that blood thinning medication can interact with K2, but I need to take K2 to start increasing my Vitamin D levels without negatively affecting my calcium levels.

Hi Fashiomister271. Think you may have posted in the wrong forum (this forum deals with pernicious anaemia and B12 deficiency. There are a number of epilepsy fora on HU - if you look in My Hub, there's a search communities function.

Having said that, yes - vitamin K2 can interact with blood thinning medications (they cancel each other out).

Suggest you discuss this with your GP before taking vitamin K2 (i.e. don't take it unless agreed by your GP). Pharmacists can often give good advice too (I always consult a pharmacist about medication issues before discussing with a GP - they're often more knowledgable).

Your GP will be able to prescribe in a way that will balance and maintain your vitamin D and calcium levels.

Good luck.

Sorry, I have tried to delete the post.

And I can't go to my GP as they will not increase my Vitamin D to the level that I need and won't even acknowledge that I need magnesium or K2 at all.

You could try taking advice from a pharmacist (though my pharmacist advised me not to take K2, and I'm not on anti-coagulants (blood thinners).

As to vitamin D - over supplementation can cause vitamin D toxicity- assume your BP has checked your levels?

Have you seen this site:

Magnesium - lots here get it from body oils or bath soaks (Epsom salts, I think).

Supplements can be very difficult to get right because different individuals need different amounts, a lot also depends on medications being taken too (some do impede absorption of various vitamins and minerals) and over-supplementation can be quite dangerous.

Hope you manage to get things sorted to your satisfaction.

👍

Foggyme Hi. K2 does not act like k1. K2 is safe to take at night and vitamin d in the morning... All safe with epitec. Also take magnesium. Google differences between k1 and k2. K1 involved with blood. Most of us are deficient in k2, especially people taking epitec. Google benefits of taking acetyl L carnitine for brain and focus and memory. Google L Carnosone for energy, weight loss and more. Both fantastic stuff. All the best
