Self-injectors. Sharps disposal?

Hi All,

I'm thinking of going down the self-injection route. I've found sources of hydroxocobalamin, syringes and needles. But how do I dispose of them?

Any advice?

I think it is illegal to dispose of them in the ordinary bins - you might have to seek advice from the medical services, or from your local refuse collection service as they may be willing to provide yellow bags which you just put on your step - my husband does that as he is on dialysis. Yellow bags are the right ones for clinical waste and have to be disposed of in a particular way. Suex

First thing to try is actually taking the sharps bin into the chemist as they will dispose of them but it may depend on the size of the bucket - I was referred to the chemist when I was taking anti-coag after an operation and they took the bin no probs - but I haven't tried taking in a 2ltre bucket which is what I'm using at the moment .... and I haven't got round to phoning the council to find out - they do tend to have a medical refuse collection that you can register for.

Terrific. I've ordered a 0.6L sharps bin from Amazon and I'll see the pharmacist next week.

If not and you are registered with a vet they might help though they usually charge for it.

Ask your council. My council Croydon delivers a new sharps box when taking away the full sharps box for free

Think it depends where you live. I'm in Bedfordshire. Chemists won't take them, the council does but only if you have a prescription and the local drug users support places aren't very keen to help. I'm still trying to find a solution.

Brilliant! My council does it for free. They even supply the boxes.
