Sharps bin disposal Liverpool

I need to dispose of my b12 sharps bin in Liverpool. I self inject without a prescription so I doubt my gp would take it and I also don’t want them to start questioning me etc. I can’t seem to find anything on the internet of where I can just go and do this! It seems a common problem. I keep reading about council collection. I work so this isn’t viable, I don’t have time to wait in and again I need a prescription or a referral for them to come etc. Even if you are diabetic some people across the UK have problems! It seems to the council/health services are concerned about the safety of all this and helping people trying to do the right thing. If you were a drug user, what would you do? Surely correct disposal should be encouraged not over complicated?! The lack of options is appalling.

Of course I don’t know about Liverpool , but my local chemists take my full yellow sharps box without question -no charge . So you could phone first and ask .

My local council in Surrey will collect one sharps bin a year, no questions asked. No need to wait in for collection, it just has to be sealed and hidden from full view, so left behind a bin etc.

So it’s worth contacting your council to ask arrangements in case you have similar.

I will try that after the chemists. I don’t like the idea of leaving it lying around and don’t really have anywhere to hide it as I live on a main road and no bins to put by! I can imagine it will be some beuracratic nightmare with the council 🙂

Here in London I use my local Addaction Needle Exchange - they're really wonderful .

They also give out advice on self-injecting, and free NHS disposable syringes.

I see from Google that there are Needle Exchanges in Liverpool, and some of them are run by Addaction.

In yorkshire Ive used the needle exchange -you take your full needle box to a participating chemists & they will take the bin & give you an empty one. I bought the first one. Suggest you do an online search for your area?

Where I live the pharamcy won't take them as they are clinical waste and the local council web site states "We only collect syringes, needles or other sharps if they are in a prescription empty sharps container". As I don't want to tell my GP I can't get a perscription bin so I don't know what I am going to do with mine.

I’m not sure if you ever sorted this but in Liverpool sharps bins are collected by the council. Just call them to arrange. Health centres, pharmacies etc won’t accept them.
