Sharps bin collection

Hi all hope you can help. I’ve had to move onto self injecting due to my GP stopping injections because of coronavirus. They wanted to put me on lozenges that I have to source myself (I’ve bought some but still not arrived!) but with PA I just don’t want to risk my health when I doubt these will be absorbed. So I’ve managed to get all the stuff I need to inject including a sharps bin, however, when I have checked with our council, these need dropping off at the pharmacy who I suspect would inform the GP (although I don’t know this for sure). How do you guys who self inject get your sharps bins collected? Thank you

Just drop off at any pharmacy that will take it. Phone around. It takes a long time to fill. Wouldnt bother at present going anywhere. Just store if full .

Drop it off at a different pharmacy to the one you normally use. Don't give them your name.

Will they just take it if you don’t leave your name?

Don’t know but it is a big bin so will be a while before I have to take it anywhere :)

Most local authorities will arrange collection from you so please talk to them. Chemists are not able to contact your GP under the Data Protection Act so you need not worry about that.

I have been injecting bi monthly for two years and my bin is only just nearly full! I will store and get another bin until I can go to a pharmacy

The pharmacist will not tell your GP and they won’t ask for your name or the reason for you having a bin. Their interest in in safe disposal of sharps primarily.

Thanks, that’s one less thing to worry about! :)

Also, though some may not want to visit one, you can always use your local drug clinic who have a free needle exchange & they'll also give you an empty sharps box in return for your full one with no questions asked.

Thanks, got a big bin so I’ve a while before it gets full but that sounds good that they also give you an empty one when you drop off. There’s a drug clinic near my hair dressers so once I can go back in for my hair cutting I can drop it off there! Kill two birds! 😂

That's good.

There'll be massive queues at all hair dressers & barbers as everyone will be trying to get a "trim n edge" 😁

I’ve already messaged my hairdressers to see if my appointment still stands in July should they be open and I’m still booked in! Fingers crossed they’re open, my work think I’m someone new as my hair is now brunette after not being able to dye it blonde for so long!

I remember years ago having ash blonde highlights many years ago. I never have to pay for it now as it's weathered all by itself 😁
