Best folate and where to buy it.... ☺

Been si every other day for just over 2 months now... But for about 10 days now I've not been well.. Feeling hot like flu but no temperature.. Easing every now and then.. Then coming back again.. Head pounds when I stand up and I get light headed... I'm starting my iron supplements today.. But although my folate was fine before I started injecting, I fear I might now be low considering the amount of hydroxocobalamin I've had... Any advice would be much appreciated.. I feel terrible 😔... Thanks everyone.... ☺

Any supermarket pharmacy or chemists will do. Have a word with the pharmacist and explain your situation and ask his advice on strength and frequency.

I am not a medically trained person but personally I have taken 1 - 400ug Folic acid tablet every day for more years than I can remember but then I've been having B12 injections every month for P.A.

You can of course source Folate from leafy green vegetables and it is also to be found fortified into many breakfast cereals.

Folate is the natural vitamin B9 found in green leafy vegetables , peas etc . Manufactured B9 is called folic acid . There is a form of folic acid called Methylfolate or 5- MTHF . which is intended for patients with the MTHFR gene . It is much more expensive and of no benefit to people who do not gave the aforementioned gene

Best to try to get your folate with vegetables if possible .

It's a form of folic acid that is already metabolised , and needs no further processing in the body , unlike normal folic acid . Only patients with the gene mutation MYHFR really need to take this form of folic acid . But you can use it instead of the usual folic acid , if you wish . But it is much more expensive .

Thank you for your reply ☺.. I think I'm going to try eating more greens... Twice a day blended into a juice.. ☺.. Hopefully that'll work ☺....

When doing stir fries or curries I always add a handful of Pak Choi leaves, or baby spinach, at the very end. Adds a fot of flavour, some nice colour and lots of folate.

And a nice daal side-dish adds even more.

Don't buy cheap folic acid, I done a ton of research and use solgar metafolin, I was really struggling taking holland and Barrett folic acid, you may also need electrolytes too, I have fantastic days now! Never thought I would ever sa that again!! 😁😁😁😁😁

For the vast majority of people cheap folic acid from the supermarket will be just as good as expensive methylfolate made by 'big vitima'.

Hi, yes most could probably use it, but I wanted to tell people sometimes it isn't as simple as just using normal folic acid, we all need to put what works best for us, so people struggling can try something different, taking the metafolin is what really helped me turn a corner, if I can help another with this info, I will be pleased x

Thank you lizreds1.... I think you're right ☺... I tried folic acid and didn't get on with it..and because of that I thought I didn't need it... I've started folate and feeling much better 😊.......

Yes, we all need to determine what is best for us individually.

Which is why proffering advice such as "Don't buy cheap folic acid" isn't very helpful, when over 90% of people will get along just fine with folic acid (cheap or expensive).
