I'm afraid that we're not too well up on anything but Pernicious Anaemia in here. The name is a bit misleading as the particular type of anaemia associated with our syndrome is caused by low B12.

Your anaemia sounds much more like iron-deficiency.anaemia. It can take a while for this to get better as the body can only make new red blood cells slowly.

If your iron tablets are iron sulfate then make sure you take them with something with citric acid and vitamin C as that helps absorption. Tesco do a fizzy Vitamin C tablet with citric acid that should be very good.

Have you found out why your Hb was so low? I can remember having a gastric problem years ago ( just turned out to be gluten intolerance, nothing serious) but the dr who did the endoscopy said he was only interested in finding out why I was anaemia ( he was charming, manner and communication skills of a door post)

I think maybe go back to your GP to find a reason. Heavy periods are a common reason, but you don't want to get your iron levels up, just for them to fall again.
