I have PA, I have just ordered patches and sprays to use aswell as 8 weekly injections by nurse. I'm wondering if these will help or am I wasting my time and money? I think I read somewhere that these treatments can't be absorbed (only injections) will be effective. I'm a bIt confused?!
B12 Patches and B12 Sprays: I have PA... - Pernicious Anaemi...
B12 Patches and B12 Sprays
I've tried both and they did nothing.
Human skin is very, very good at keeping out stuff that shouldn't be in (and at keeping stuff in that shouldn't be out) especially large molecules (like B12). So I was highly sceptical about the patches.
I tried patches, sub- lingual lozenges, mouth and nose sprays when I was refused any extra B12 injections ( on 3 monthly regime ,with numb feet which were 'idiopathic'according to doc) All in vain ! Injections are the only solution for me ! But some people say that they help , and we are all different . I can only say -Give them a try , but they are all more expensive than 1 mg B12 ampoules -, which you can self inject for about £1.00 a time ,when bought in bulk - quantities of 100. - That is needles , syringes , swabs and ampoules .
Best wishes to you .
an absorption problem doesn't necessarily mean no absorption so sublinguals can work for some - personally find nasal sprays quite effective - and use some adenosyl sublinguals. Never tried skin patches so can't comment - some do find them effective.
The doses involved are really high - 400x RDA + - in comparison to the amount the average person needs so if !% gets through you would be getting 4xRDA - not enough to correct the original deficiency - but possibly enough to keep your levels where they need to be for you.
All you can really do is try and see.
I chose not to have injections. Tried sublingual under tongue b12. Didn't work for me. Tried Garden of Life b12 methyl only mouth spray. Raised my b12 from 105 to 433 in four weeks! Only one spray. 500 mcg's did it for me but of course you could use more. From U.S. Only $15 a bottle and it has 140 sprays per bottle. I say it's worth a try! Hope that helps!
I am using oral B12 spray at the moment ( as my last 8 weekly injection did not seem to do much at all,) with me it seems to take about an hour to kick in lasts for 4-6 hours depending on how active I am then drops out again but it is helping, as others have said seems to work for some but not all. Hope you feel some benefit, best wishes
I use b12 Boost spray by Better You from about week 5 until i have my jab at week 8....I find it does help but have to have a lot more than the 4 sprays recommended....sometimes up to 20 sprays a day. Quite honestly will try anything to get even a little help. I am lucky having my injections 8 weekly. Originally it was 12 then 10 and due to intervention from the consultant who removed my gallbladder who wrote to my doctor advising that 'a significant number of pernicious anaemia patients require their injections at 8 weekly intervals', i now have it 8 weekly.
