Groin Shingles and PHN

Hi everybody, I contracted shingles in my groin some 5 months ago and am now suffering from Post Herpetic neuralgia. I have numbness in my buttocks, legs, feet and genitals and in much pain and discomfort has anyone had similar experience and can suggest anything to relieve these symptoms?

You really should be asking your doctor about this. However.....

It seems that Post Herpetic Neuralgia is similar to the peripheral neuropathy that us PA sufferers share with diabetics. When I went to see my GP about it (the stabbing was waking me at night) he suggested amitriptyline (a tricyclic antidepressant), and I suggested gabapentin (and anti-epileptic). We decided on gabapentin. That was a month ago and I've had no sleep disturbance due to the pain.

I would read up on those two choices, discuss it with my GP, then give one of them a go.

Yes I had the same and was given Gabapentin tablets and they were great
