Am in the same vote as yourself....

Just in the last year, I was like you, was put through my paces with various medication. Then they put me on slow release morphine tablets. Does it help, well it keeps some of the pain at bay. It gets you through the day, as the morphine is taken every 12hrs....

Am now on 60mg, twice daily is 120mg, but obviously I started off on a lower dose...

Take care

Joe

Mst is good. However, it depends how quick your morphine receptors become immune to it. I had to escalate up the dose very quickly over a year -started at 30mg and ended up at 60mg twice a day. However I'm only 22. I had a hip replacement and do not need it now. My advice would be think long and hard before starting it. Also think whether or not you will have to come off of it. I had terrible withdrawal coming off it ...trainspoting style.

Good luck.

I've had a steroid inj and agree they don't work, I haven't been offered anything else and am just taking co dydramol, these are for the bursitis, arthritis in spine etc and osteoporosis. I am in constant pain to varying degrees, some days are worse than others. I haven't been offered morphine but would be worried to take it.

Is there anything else besides morphine ?

Hi, I have the same conditions as you, also had the injection, lasted about a month. I have tried other meds but stop due to side effects. I am on co dryramol and they take the edge off the pain but don,t take it away. My big worry now is that I can handle the pain when I am resting, leg up and reading, knitting etc but as soon as I do anything such as housework it puts me back for a couple of days. Very frustrating! Thing is, anything stronger than the meds I am on, make me drowsy and lethargic mentally. No idea which way to go. I have had days where I think, that,s it no medicatrion today and let,s see how I go. It lasts for about two hours and then I give in. I think I am waiting for a miracle cure. Hope you have some luck in finding something that suits you, Ann

Hi I can empathise with you all, I too have bursitis, worse on my right side and I have to say although I have constant lumbar, thigh and pelvic pain, the bursitis pain is the worse.

I saw a hip surgeon last week hoping to have the op I'd read about on the net about removing the bursa. However he strongly advised against it. There are surgeons doing it but there is no research to say its effective and when they have their meetings they go sheepish when asked the question how did their ops go! He said it is a chronic condition that can not be cured. He advised paracetamol and an amitriptyline like tablet are the most effective. I had steroids that lasted a couple of months but this too he says should only be done if you are desperate. This is because whereas the bursa should be filled with fluid, mine has gone solid (analogy of a shrivelled balloon filled with sand) which could be caused by the steroid. However the best thing he advised was Pilates! He was very pleased when I told him I had started it a couple of months before. He says that Pilates is an excellent way of strengthening the muscles and can reduce the pain. When I am doing the Pilates, my hip is killing me, it burns even before I start the exercises. The lady who teaches it is excellent and is aware of my issues and gives me adaptations of the exercises if I can't manage it. It is frustrating because it hurts like hell and some I can't do but I am going to persevere and couldn't recommend it strongly enough. I also do aqua aerobics, which is also good for pain and strengthening. Sorry for the long reply but I felt it important to share this information. A word about long acting morphine, it can cause increased muscle pain.

i'm in your situation, the consaultant spoke of surgery a fortnight ago for my chronic hip bursitis both hips, had many different painrelif meds that haven't been effective, being wheelchair bound adds a complication for me so not sure what my consaultant is going too next as he's done the works acept surgery. because i am desperate now i'll risk the risks with surgery hoping for a better outcome. hope the pilates and aqua aaerobics continues too work for you

Hi

I think I might give Pilates a go, anything is worth trying, thanks for the suggestion. I really don't want to go down the morphine route yet.

Have you tried a tens unit? Relatively cheap at a well known pharmacy the one that doesn't begin with "B"! Helps break the pain pathway and raises endorphins in brain. Check it's ok with your doc though. Pain Clinic referral is best place to start if you want to take control of your own body.

I have only just joined this group. I don't appear to be alone! I too am suffering from bursitis & sciatica and wanting very much for the pain to end. I had an injection 10 days ago and don't feel any different. Pain killers just make you feel numb and stiffens you up. Walking around like Quasimodo throws my back out! I get some comfort now realising I am not alone! Going to read on to see if ANYONE has got any solutions. Cheers MM
