Last week in the Mail it had two articles. One said 1000mgs of calcium could cause heart trouble and the other wirtten by the doctor on the healthy pages stated "to take 1000mgs", What dosage is safe cos I am baffled. I am coeliac and have numerous allergies. Dairy being one of them.
Calcium and what dosage?: Last week in the Mail... - Pain Concern
Calcium and what dosage?
Yup I agree but he says nothing except to try and get me on calcium on prescription and I won't have it cos it contains no vit D, no magnesium, no boron etc. I agree fully about the Mail and actually have written to them for putting in two divergant articles. Suppose you do believe them...some would cos it is in print.
Always double check what a GP says. The GP does not live with the consequences of their bad advice: you do. The law protects a GP for the liability of giving bad advice.
The Daily Mail article does need further explorering because it does not give enough technical information on the problem. What it says does make sense in regard to how nerves and muscles work. The artical is a warning that one needs to look at how much calcium enters the bloodstream all in one go and suggests that taking calcium for bone problems is not as simple and safe as one used to think.
so should I take the 600mgs in divided doses. I have RA, OA, osteoporosis coming and neuroalgic pains. I cannot have wheat, gluten, dairy, alcohol, pineapple, herbs, spices, nuts cos fo the fat and also on a low fat diet and take enzymns to digest food cos fo multiple intolerance and allergies. [also take Forceval on prescription]. I cannot have any painkillers cos of allergies to them....salycilate etc
HELLO
With calcium you would need too take vitamen D, although I would ask the doctor first
I do take this but as I cannot have any painkillers cos of allergies my GP sees me rarely and would llaugh his head off if I went and asked the question I put above.
I do take magnesium and boron in a capsule Solgar, also Forceval fromthe GP, plus vit C, A etc as I am hypothyroid and of course do not change betacarotene into vitamin A nor take up vit B12. I have to find out things by asking. I asssume though from what has been written to take around 600mgs of calcium, 400mgs of magnesium in a divided dose is OK. anyone confirm this.
