facial Nerve damage

About 18 months ago, I was in a traffic accident and sustained a fracture in my left maxilla and a small fracture on the left side of my nose. After an X-ray, the doctor decided it wasn’t necessary to operate, as they believed it would heal on its own.

However, I still experience pain when I touch my left cheek, and when my sharp canine tooth makes contact, I feel pain that radiates up to my nose. Over the past 12 months, the pain has worsened.

There are no issues with facial movement, but I sometimes feel pressure in my left cheek. Additionally, I occasionally have tingling sensations in my nose, and at times, my left cheek feels warmer than the right side.

Doctors have told me that I just have to live with this, but it feels unbearable to continue like this. Is there any chance this could still heal, or should I give up hope?”**

It takes a long time for nerve damage to heal-- years.

There are nerve pain medications, which may help severe pain.

Yes there is hope, although nerves will heal better if you give them the tools to do so. Have you had vit B12 and folate checked recently? Worth asking for a serum test first, just to see if you are low by NHS standards, in which case you might be offered injections of B12 (which is the most reliable treatment). Unfortunately you can be deficient at cellular level at any serum level, so this is by no means conclusive, but it is the only place to start. If you already take B vitamins then this will affect the result (and may not fix the damage, if it is an oral supplement). Absorption is complex and can be affected by other illness, surgery, stress, age, medications, diet, family history etc Worth some thought. High blood sugar could slow down healing too, as could any form of anaemia. Cheers

I’m surprised the doctors won’t give you some Gabapentin or Amytriptyline. That’s not right in my eyes.
