Superficial peroneal nerve pain in ankle

Just found this group for chronic pain, wondered if anyone has suffered with chronic ankle pain.I broke my ankle 13 years ago and always had pain after, had plate and 10 screws taken out then an arthroscopy to take scar tissue out. Still in pain. Was eventually told it was nerve damage and too late to do anything about it and would have to be controlled by medication. Went onto 10mg amiltriptiline and have gone up to 20mg and it helped the burning. It probably happened when a nerve was broken or stretched or caught up when doing the op but all the drs i saw never diagnosed it properly and it was too late to operate on the nerve the consultant told me in 2021 but referred me to a pain management clinic. Went eventually after months and months of waiting and had high hopes for the appointment but what a waste of time, told me to come off the amiltriptiline as I didn't need it and do anything you want and meditate. He just talked down and over me all the time and put in letter to Dr we'd come to an agreement! I've tried since then to cut down or get off the amiltriptiline mainly because I've now got kidney disease stage 3 and my kidney levels keep going down. They're now 51 and should be 60 and over. When i do try to come off the amiltriptiline I get bad burning and pins and needles so I'm taking 10mg again but don't think it's in my system as I'm in lots of pain. I just don't know what the answer is or if anyone has some advice. I have got a call Tuesday from a dr to discuss my blood test as there's some other funny results and I was going to ask about being referred about my ankle but don't hold out much hope with anything being done.

Sorry it's so long.

Hi, I’m also in the UK. Sorry you have so much pain. I have also been to a pain clinic, in Wales. It wasn't worth the taxi fare and I left feeling like I just wasn’t believed! I always ask, have you ever been prescribed Ciprofloxacin or another fluoroquinolone antibiotic? I have chronic peripheral neuropathy (nerve pain) in my lower legs, ankles and feet and have been diagnosed that it is due to the antibiotic, Cipro. Unfortunately there is no treatment or cure for my pain. Take care of yourself xx Isobel
