Hello again Junny123. Because the lesions of Lichen Planus can resemble oral cancer, a biopsy is done for a definite diagnosis.

dentist just rang and asked if i’ve heard anything from the hospital. i said no n she said ok she’ll get in contact with them n see what’s happening. rang me back and said they’re not answering so we’ll ring again on monday. why did i get the call already 😔. i was only referred on wednesday/thursday. is it cos she’s thinking something

hi Junny , when I had my biopsy done, it was numbed first, they took the sample and put in 4 stitches. It was not too bad and the stitches fell out after 7 days. I had to eat soft food as the stitches would stick out inbetween my top and bottom teeth and I tried to avoid chowing down on them. After 24 hours you can do a warm water salt swish to aid the healing and to keep germs at bay. Try not to worry as it wasn’t painful to me. Hope all goes well for you. I have to have 6 monthly check ups on my opl but all is well.

thanks for your reply, so is that what they said to you?Lichen planus?

Hi there, yes my result was exactly that. They said that my dentist needs to keep a check on it every six months. I now know why I get a lot of small ulcers on the roof of my mouth as it’s common with this. I regularly do a salt water gargle which helps.

i was just saying earlier that my pain seems miles better how can that be? i’m not complaining! but i’m wondering can the dentist mouthwash help that much?

Hi there, maybe that mouthwash has a little steroid in it I did read that on a bad flare up it helps to calm it. I haven’t gone down that route yet, but will keep it in mind. Take good care of yourself and have a nice Christmas x

hi finally the hospital rang this morning. said i’ve got an appointment with the consultant tomorrow. does anybody know what they will do? just have a look and talk? or even do the biopsy- they do that

hi there, they will do the biopsy on that first appointment. Try not to worry, I know it’s easier said than to do. I guess we all worry when we wait for these kind of results. I did too.

went to see the dentist n by then it had improved so much! he said it’s inflammatory “something” but when i asked oral lichen planus he said yes basically that’s what it is. he said because he knows what it is there’s no need for a biopsy- atm. given my a tablet to dissolve and said it’s very strong and will help a lot. called me in in 4 weeks and will see how things are. i had normal food for the first time since this problem started and omg i almost screamed that’s how sore it was. i basically can’t eat spicy food. for i don’t know how long.

Yes the “C” word is stressful but there is no sense in stressing until you have the biopsy.

More than likely your issue is not the “C” word, please don’t fret but as I recall it worried me too. It sounds like your dentist is wonderful in that she knows referrals can be lost and she is just following up.

i have a sharp pain in the side of my body my ribs and liver area. when i breathe in it kills. i can’t take a full breath. can this be related maybe do u think

In my humble opinion ( I’m a nurse but not a doctor) I don’t think your rib/side pain would be related to lichen Planus. This is something you should speak to your primary physician about as soon as possible to rule out anything serious.

I had lichen plans & also biopsy. 4 stitches which were uncomfortable but all healed within a couple of weeks. I think they just have to be certain and it’s v treatable. Touch wood no recurrence. Good Luck.

spoke too soon. pain slowly is back to where it was. it only slightly improved and there’s me thinking it had gone. i didn’t use the mouth wash as much could that be the cause of the pain appearing
