hi I am a 28 year old female from wales. For the past year I have felt this intense burning and sore discomfort in my head. It is quite distressing . Whenever I am touched I feel it, as well as bathing and eating nice meals . This has affected my quality of life and my mental health . Please does someone know a cure for it

Have you been to a doctor?

Yes and they prescribed me pregabalin as they thought it was nerve pain. But Ive taken it for over a month and still no relief

I would keep on at the doctor as the only way to get anything done is to become a pain in the proverbial. Hopefully they will refer you to a specialist.

In all honesty it does sound like a “Nerve Issue”

Nerves can be affected or trapped in any part of the body and this in turn sends pain to your brain.

My first thought is your teeth! Do you have regular checkups and have any X-ray been taken very recently ? I know it sounds odd but teeth roots can easily press against nerves especially when inflamed.

So it’s worth a thought speaking to your dentist 🦷 if you have one to rule this issue out.

Good luck. Living with pain can be very difficult especially as others can’t see it ! xx

Who have you seen for your mental health issues? It sounds like you need to go back to see them but in the mean time you could contact the mental health crisis team in your area.

A year ago you said you were a student, are you at university still? They should also have a mental health crisis team too.

I’d be asking for an MRI & CT scan as the pain could be coming from leaking spinal fluid. I get severe migraines that last weeks at a time but come on suddenly and looking at my neck & spinal cord was one of the first things they did. Sudden severe headaches does allude to either a nerve issue like trigeminal neuralgia or issues coming from your spinal fluid. Best to get the GP to refer you to Neurology as a priority.

I am so sorry to hear about your pain and I can relate. It is awful but please know that there is an end of this nitemare so please hang in there. I too had burning scalp and head pain. It could be part of migraine issues or a scalp issue. Please see a dermatologist to look at your scalp and a Headache specialist or neurologist. I am sure there is something that can help. I tried a low dose of nortripyline that is used for migraine and nerve pain. Also stressing with this can make it worse and I know it's a vicious cycle. Try to do some meditation to calm the nerves in your head as well as deep breathing. Watch your diet too...no sugary sweets since sugar increases inflammation. Drink a lot of water!

This will get better....just takes more time and the right course of action.

I have nerve issues due to a spinal problem. I was prescribed Duloxetine for it and I find it helps. It’s worth looking at different medications if pregabalin isn’t helping.

Has the doctor considered cluster headaches? These can feel like burning pain in your head. They can be really debilitating. It sounds like you are really struggling, and ongoing pain of any sort wears you down.

As others have suggested it could also be nerve pain of some type. Do you get the pain all the time? It might be worth keeping some sort of diary of when the pain occurs, how frequently and if you get any other symptoms, such as nausea, dizziness, sinus pain, pain on one side or both, over the eyes,or all over. Is it the same every time, or does it change? Keep a note of how painful it is on a scale of 1 - 10 and when. I suggest you ask your GP to refer you to a neurologist if they haven't found the cause.

Definitely go back to the doctor and ask for further investigations and treatment.

I cant live anymore with the discomfort. I would rather die of alcohol poisoning than live with the discomfort. I am in so much pain and discomfort. It is intolerable

Hi...stick with it but it will take time....I had GCA and recently a flare where right side temple pain and numbness were the issue...Back on steroids but after neck x-ray tapering them off as it has no effect....the x-ray and eventually CT..showed arthritis in the neck and likely a trapped nerve. Have 'urgent' appt with physio in December....no comment...have been to chiropractor which helped, and after several phone calls and being a pest am now waiting for MRI......If its like mine it's VERY odd and disconcerting to have permanent headache, numbness and tinnitus...I do exercise to help the motion and am on Naproxen during the day.It does make you feel rubbish all day some days, but they have ruled out a stroke etc, so it's keep pestering and try to live 'through it' awful as it is.
