I have no aches or pains when at rest , only when I walk . its gradually got worse over last 3 or 4 years think it might be related to medication . I take thyroxine ibersarten B12 and ibrufen. I used to play a lot of golf gave it up 3 years ago have a struggle to walk 200 yards now . anybody got any suggestions . thank you potplants.

I don't want to be a party pooper but I don't think you can expect a whole lot from your body at age 85. I'm 71 and having the same issues as you. We are probably alike in that we both lead a very active life and now our bodies are telling us it's time to rest. I take a statin medication for high cholesterol and it is known to cause muscle weakness. I've just started doing my own lawn maintenance again and my legs get weak after pushing the mower for a while. There's a condition called spinal stenosis which can cause these symptoms.

Have you seen your doctor about it ? It sounds as if it could be intermittent claudication or a similar problem.

Think you are doing fine potplants, but maybe a little massage on your legs might help. I use allsorts for my muscles but am a little younger and have arthritis too. Thermal leggings although old fashioned keep the muscles warm so they work better. I have a garden too I can walk up and down to keep the muscles going. Try not to overdo it, lots of tablets have muscle aches as side effects. Thyroid imbalance can cause weight change and muscle pain so worth a chat with your GP for tips too. Enjoy your day.

I am 48 and I have pain and have had unstable knees only since 2019. I have just been to Sweden and I was able to walk short distances, but unable to carry heavy bags for a long time. I have no pain when sitting down or going to bed but I have weighed in heavy at 220 pounds for a number of years now as-well which has not helped with the situation. I take Collagen Joint Supplements and several different vitamins which help alot, I only take Ibuprofen if I really need to but seem to cope with the supplements right now. I sweat a lot whilst walking and initially my breathing gets heavier when I am walking at a slightly increased pace. My mobility is improving slightly but I still have a long way to go. If I am like this now I am unsure what will happen when I reach 70🤔

I am encouraged by your attitude, PotP! I am 81, diagnosis 4-5 yrs ago, still drive, and use 1 or 2 walking poles. My self esteem said NO to a rollator, but my dtr got me to try one, and I've never looked back. Neddy goes with me uptown daily for exercise, and I can sit for a break whenever I like. Possibly racing downhill? Good to see you still posting. TimbowPSP

Like you ‘potplants’, I have little to no pain when sat or when laying in bed however, I have immense pain within a few minutes of standing. Like ‘timbow’, I can walk short distances whilst using a wheeled walker - that has a firm seat to enable short breaks (timbow calls his a rollator), however, I am now at a level that anything more than a 100 yards or so - I now use a small, electric mobility scooter. At 77, I have a large collection of medications due to having severe asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol etc,. I also am currently working with the pain clinic, due to the issues with my lower back and take Dihydrocodeine with paracetamol 3/4 times daily plus, 60mg Amitriptyline. At my next visit with the pain clinic, we are going to possibly re-access my pain med as in November, it will a year taking the Dihydrocodeine and paracetamol and also see if there is something else we can try in order to keep me mobile - and also to ease the pain. We are also hoping to consider using a little gentle exercise, in the hope that it hopefully help too.

Please be careful using ibuprofen - because that caused my low level CKD jump to stage 3.
