Muscle and joint pains

Hi, the last few days all my joints and muscles have hurt, ached and burned more than usual and all at same time. I've bought a massive tube of voltarol and am applying it on feet, toes, ankles, knees, thighs, hips, fingers, wrists and elbows. I've got diagnosed arthritis, osteoarthritis, DDD, recurring slipped disc but despite all that other than high crp and ESR at every blood test the rheumatologist saw me on three occasions only then said he wouldn't see me any more, I've always suspected lupus or sjogrens but blood tested negative so that's it. What are your thoughts, can I go back to gp and ask them to insist they see me again? Or shall I find rheumy number and contact direct. If I had arthritis all over then wouldn't the specialist overseeing me be a rheumatologist? I feel let down, I've so many tender areas under my skin yet I was never really examined except when I insisted which was awful and even then it wasn't done at all properly, like he'd made his mind up by reading my notes and because I've had cancer, chemo and radiotherapy that must clearly be why I hurt everywhere.

Thanks Tinkerbell, I'll go back but may phone rheumatology direct first, was only dismissed about 6 months ago. Have you been diagnosed, do you see a rheumy?

High ESR could mean you P.M.R - Poly Myalgia Rheumatics. Thus us inflammation if the connective tissue, so not the joints but the tissue. It is very painful and debilitating. I have it and the treatment us steroids. See a different FP and suggest this. Good luck.

I had this diagnosed three years ago and had eighteen months on steroids not a cure just blanket medicine . Still in pain though .

Hi Pearl72 sorry you're back in pain, what were you diagnosed with? 18 months gosh, that's a long time, was it awful weaning yourself off them and did pain come back as before? Did you gain weight on them?

The weaning process was awful badly advised by my gp and my rheumatologist was very angry and put me on the right path thankfully .

Yes weight gain also was no help , I am now told that I have osteoporosis and the base of my spine is eroded causing the pain in my back my gp said definately not trapped nerves or muscle pain showing on my scan , at new doctor now and hoping that I will get properly treated. My pain is neck shoulder down my right side to my foot and into my groin and base of my spine . All i know is that I am in pain .

Thank you kavidacat, my chiropractor suggested I had some form of myalgia, when I asked the rheumy he smiled bit sarcastically and said I definitely didn't have that due to the way I walked into his office! I will pursue this as for days my hands and feet have ached badly, all night and woke up with it just the same!

Dont you just love waste of time doctors! A high esr and crp mean something. Go back and see another rheumatologist. Dont get fobbed off. It took many of us more than 10 years to finally get a diagnosis.

Thank you, you've all reinforced my intention to push it again. During that ten years were you under rheumatology or just going back to GP with symptoms?

First got fobbed off in my 20's by rheumatology. Same gp though who has been supportive. Got another referal two years ago to rheumatology. Currently flitting between an AS and Lupus diagnosis.
