pressure sore - healed after over a year on bed/sofa-rest

Around March last year I noticed a sore patch but because of stress of moving (in July 2022) I ignored thhe red flags. By the time I had moved the pressure sore was the size of a fist and Grade 4 - they wanted me in hospital as I don’t have care 24 hours. I had to fight to stay home with district nurses coming twice a day. Finally a year later earlier this year it looked healed but as soon as I was in my wheelchair moving around it split open again. Now finally it is healed - massive raised scar but it has stayed closed. I really didn’t think I would get here but I did.

It’s such a relief - thank you!

Well done for getting through that! It must have been awful for you. I had little sores on my bum from bed rest after smashing my pelvis. They weren't anywhere near as bad as what you had but even that was agony!! So, I can't even imagine the pain you must have experienced, but you got through it and that's absolutely amazing. I hope you don't ever have to go through that again.....well done!!!

Thanks - thankfully I haven't got much feeling below my waist - so even though I saw on photographs how gory it looked - I couldn't feel a thing!

I'm so glad you didn't feel the pain. Still hope you don't have to go through it again though.

Unfortunately with spinal cord injuries they can be a big problem. After my injuries in 89 they were not that good on pressure relief. I left hospital with a nasty one on my heel. Ten years later my leg had to be amputated as infection from the sore had got into my bone.

There is a product you can buy at health food stores called Sea Buckthorn. It is the one of the best natural source of skin healing. You might benefit from taking it?

I’m delighted you have finally recovered.

You experience sounds horrific - whether you could feel the pain, or not, it must have been horrendous for you. Yet here am I - bemoaning my facet joint issues. You certainly have made me appreciate that my disability is minor in comparison. Kindest wishes to you…😊

Disability is very subjective- we all feel things in different ways. What might appear minor or ‘not as bad’ to others can be incredibly disabling.
