Excessive pain

Hi everyone, an update about my health. I had my gall bladder removed just over a year ago, I am still experiencing a lot of pain from the incision. I only had keyhole surgery so it wasn't scar tissue. I eventually got an appointment with my new doctor. She was concerned and felt my abdomen and asked me what I was experiencing. She told me to do two poo samples, one for H pylori bug and one for possible bowel cancer. The symptoms that I was having was excessive burping both ends. Every time I eat I burp and I have never done that before. I suffer with chronic constipation so it took me over 4 weeks to do the sample due to not being able to empty my bowels. I got my results a few days ago. The doctor had been trying to get hold of me, having phoned me twice. I phoned the receptionist to be told that I needed to see the doctor. I was extremely worried, I got an appointment and had to wait another week, I had sleepless nights worrying. The doctor eventually phoned me to tell me that I tested negative for the H pylori bug but positive for the possible bowel cancer. So now I am having lots of tests including seeing a gastroenterologist, well I am not actually seeing him/her it is a telephone call tomorrow. So more anxiety. It is ridiculous leaving me waiting. I am an anxious person to start with. I think that the day I did my sample I hadn't pooed for 4 weeks and I had to really push to get it out so I think that I had tore something in my bowel because the doctor said that I was bleeding from it. I have no other symptoms of having Bowel Cancer and this is because of pain coming from my incision.

That sounds terrible, sorry you're going through it. I haven't experienced anything like this myself so can't offer any practical advice, but I do hope your situation improves soon. Keep us posted.

Sorry to hear this bad news but being constipated for 4 weeks is horrendous and your right pushing to evacuate will and most probably did cause bleeding how could it not .

I thought exactly the same, I told this to my doctor and she referred me for all these tests. A specialist was supposed to have phoned me this morning at 10am, the doctor didn't phone but a nurse did, the problem was she phoned me at 8.30am while I was on the bus going to work, I told the nurse where I was and could she phone back later but she wouldn't so I had to tell her all my details while everyone was listening in to my conversation on the bus, which I wasn't pleased about. It turns out that I have to have a camera down my throat which I have declined, What has that got to do with bleeding in my bowels? the nurse wasn't interested in that and has passed me back to my GP. I think it is ridiculous I have had sleepless nights worrying and they don't care. It doesn't surprise me though.

You must be in agony. I’m sorry for your physical pain and emotional suffering.

Did the surgeon leave metal staples in your body? I’ve read they clip the bile duct and they clip the blood vessels to the gallbladder. Could you be having an allergy to the metal? Have you had an X-ray?

Did the doctor use non dissolvable stitches or dissolvable stitches? Any complications? Pus? Throbbing?

I think you need to alter your diet as being that constipated isn’t healthy. Are you getting enough water in your diet? Do you drink calming teas like valerian, chamomile or mint tea? What about coconut water ?

The endoscopic procedure using the camera may help obtain tissue which can identify H. Pylori when stool samples won’t. They can also see the state of your stomach lining.

I hope things get figured out soon. I’m a firm believe that cancer can be caused by stress. Try to stay calm if you can. Sending you hope.

Aww thank you for your concern. I had keyhole surgery where they leave 3 small scars from where the instrument went in. The middle scar is very sore and has not healed properly. The poo samples I took in were very hard due to being badly constipated, I am so surprised that they could test any of it. The sample for H Pylori bug tested negative, no signs of anything, but the other one showed blood in my bowel. I think it was because I was so severely constipated I bled. There is no way that I am having a camera down my throat when other hospitals will put you to sleep if the patient wants that. I am so shocked that they are not testing my bowel, putting a camera up there to see what is going on. This is what I am concerned about nothing else.

I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. Has all this happened since you had your Gall Bladder out? I wish I had never had mine taken out. I am worse now than I was before.

Have you been offered a sigmoidoscopy or a colonoscopy?

I have been offered a camera down my throat which I am not having, I asked if they could put me to sleep but they said no they don't do it at that hospital, I have had it done many times and it is awful and they have never found anything. I think they should offer me the camera up the bum, this is what I am more concerned about. xx

Thank you for your advice. The hospital that I would be going to for the procedure is awkward, she knew that I wouldn't have this done and then she just said I will pass you back to your GP, it took me ages to get an appointment and now I have to do it all again. I know there is something wrong with my stomach due to the excessive pain around my keyhole surgery scar even though nothing showed up on my ultrasound scan doesn't mean to say that they is nothing wrong with me. They don't know so they are not interested. Also I have a horrible taste in my mouth all the time and I am constantly burping after eating and it is so embarrassing, this never happened before I had my Gall Bladder out and now I have had nothing but problems. I eat healthy I have lost weight, even though I am thin to start with, my appetite is very poor, some days I have 1 meal a day because whatever I eat I am bloated and then I feel full. My friend who had the same procedure they put her to sleep to do it, but they won't do it for me? I even mentioned that to her and she never answered me.

I have been to A@E and they say that I have to see my doctor after waiting hours in the hospital, it is a vicious circle, where nobody cares xx
