pain in bottom of spine
I had L5 S1 fusion in Feb of 2022. I have back pain when sitting and can not lay flat on my back for more than a few minutes without pain. Dr says its the SI joints.
Thankyou for replying to me ,I wonder if it will ever get better.
Hi there,
I had a very similar operation with L3/4 & L5 many years ago and complain at the beginning about the extreme pain I was getting at the bottom of my spine which was making me unable to lay flat on my back because of this.
At first they said give it time, takes about 6 months to settle down, to which I was very upset to hear! Anyway 7 months later I went back with the same pain (however learning how to sleep on my side). They then proscribed Pregabalin which I must say took away 50% of the pain at that time.
I won't go into detail since I had that first op, but since then all the other discs over time the same thing happened with MANY more discs and with a further 7 operations over a period of 5 yrs, I've ended up unable to bend lay on my front or back etc etc.
The moto of that very brief history, I implore you to bare with it and look after you body. Please say No to any further ops in the future 😥, but you will find those pills help, good luck & wish you well x
Thankyou for taking time to reply to me , this is great to hear, sorry to hear that you still having pain.
Thankyou very much for getting in touch, and giving me some very good advice. I will be taking your advice and just keep on taking pregablin
I had a long surgery of 7 hours and woke to tremendous pain in my coxix which 5 years on is still inflamed and very sore. So wondering if lying in one position during surgery also caused some of your pain.
yes that could be ,Thankyou for taking time to reply to me.
I had a lumbar spinal fusion. I had it done Sept 29, 2022. I am in a great deal of pain in my hips and lower back. It’s awful and the surgeon tells me it’s from server arthritis still through out my back. So I am pretty down about it all. It becomes overwhelming. I hope you can get some relief soon.
Thankyou for replying to me, yes I get awful pain in my hips and shocking pain I Carnot do any gardening or if I do jobs around the house I’m in such pain.
I am 71 and have lead a very active life and have had back issues most of my life. My days used to start out with 800 mg of Ibuprofen until an autoimmune disease damaged my kidneys in 2017. In 2020, I started seeing a pain management doctor who is actually trained as an anesthesiologist. I went through the routine of X-rays and MRI and they showed multiple issues in the L4-L5-S1 area. After reading stories such as I see on here and Facebook about failed back surgeries, I knew I was not going to have anything like that done to me. Anyway, the pain doctor prescribed Hydrocodone and gave me steroid shots for the first 2 years. She suggested the Proclaim XR where they implant a small box in your lower back and it has a wire that stimulates the nerves. I said no to that. Then in August of 2022, she did the first RFA (radio frequency ablation) treatment on me at L4-L5 and it works great. She uses electrical probes and puts them on the nerves in the lower back and a machine sends electrical pulses about 20 times. It basically deadens the nerves and it is supposed to last 9 months on average. I am currently in the process of also having it done on L4-L3.
That sounds really good a lot better than having a operation.Thans for sharing that with me, glad you’re feeling better x
