I have had burning mouth pain for several years. No doctor seems to know anything about it. Does anyone here have this type of pain.?

burning mouth pain
Have you asked your dentist to look?
yes, I’ve had burning mouth condition for years. The doc gave me a mouth gel which I haven’t actually used. I don’t know why!
Anyway, it isn’t a nice feeling which can also be brought on by too much talking, too much coffee and does affect taste. Can’t bear Sauvignon Blanc anymore it is too sharp on my tongue 😄. It comes and goes and sometimes I think it mirrors my dry eyes times.
Perhaps ask the doc for the mouth gel which I think is a lubricant. There doesn’t seem to be much else to help. Oh dear.
I have considerable ongoing pain that is mostly in my gums - no I don’t have gum disease or sinus/ tooth infection. However I’ve been told by a neurologist and a dental hospital doctor that is likely a damaged nerve from dental treatment I had years ago. Often it resides in my canine tooth and has been there for 16+ years. Additionally I have excess acid in my stomach and mouth from hiatus hernia - usual remedies don’t help much. I’m told the acid can be linked with the pain..
I honestly think it’s all linked with my vagus nerve as I have such difficult gastric problems and one specialist said the symptoms are not typical of hiatus hernia. I muddle along and paracetamol helps when desperate. Thankfully it goes at night.
I don’t know if that is of help to you at all, but it might show how complicated these things seem to be - no simple answers or quick fix. I wish you all the best. One dentist said to me “neuralgia and I feel very sorry for you”. I just tell myself many people are coping with a lot worse and I’m thankful I have times when it’s not as bad.
Good luck to you
also it can be part of Sjogrens condition which can occur with SLE. Not sure if I’ve spelled that right.
hi A few years ago I suffered the same problem. I eventually persuaded my GP to refer me to a gastrologist, who diagnosed me with suffering with acid reflux even though I wasn’t aware that I was. After I dealt with the acid reflux the burning mouth subsided. Just a thought.
So sorry to hear this.
My husband has suffered with burning mouth syndrome for a few years now and sorry to say hasn't found anything yet that helps. He has seen doctors and numerous dentists, both Private and on the NHS, but none have been able to advise anything to ease his suffering.
He is a member of a Facebook group, "Burning mouth syndrome support group" that receives posts from people all over the world and gives much need support and lots of advice, which does seem to help some people.
Hello, I also have a similar stabbing and throbbing type pain in my lower left side gums for 10 years. I have been to various pain specialists, dentists and neurologists but no one can give a definitive diagnosis. The most reasonable conclusion I have been given is that it is the result of grinding my teeth at night and clenching my jaw during the day. I also have sleep apnea and do have sinus issues. Nothing I have been prescribed so far have helped in any way. I am really struggling with work due to pain and lack of sleep. Any advice would be appreciated greatly.
