HI EVERYONE,

A STRANGE QUESTION HERE. i HAVE REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE PAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SHOULDERS AT THE TOP OF MY BACK? IT IS VERY UNCOMFORTBLE. I WONDER IF IT COULD BE STRESS RELATED? I HAD A HEART ATTACVK LAST YEAR AND WAS IN HOSPITAL A FEW WEEKS AGO WITH "A SCARE" BUT IT WASNT A HEART ATTACK. THE PAINS WERE CAUSED BY STRESS. I HAVE AN EXTREMELY PAINFUL AND CHRIONIC BACK CONDITION AND WONDER IF THE STRESS HORMONES ARE PLAYING A PART IN MY PAIN IN THE TOP OF MY NECK? MY GP SEEMS TO THINK THAT EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT FOCUSSING ON STRESS, THAT THE STRESS HORMONES CAN STILL BE THERE IN THE BACKGROUND AND CAUSE PAIN? WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON THIS? THANK YOU EVERYONE

Your GP is absolutely right. I have had chronic anxiety and depression all my adult life, but I've studied psychology too. It's there in the background whether you're aware of it or not. On the other hand, I'm more familiar with pain due to stress in the shoulder muscles to either side, not in the middle, so I don't know about that. Not sure if you've spoken to your GP about this particular thing or not, if not I'd say that's what you need to do. Hope you get some relief!

Last time this happened to me, it was a compression fracture. I have no clue how it happened or why. If I were you, I'd see an ortho doctor soon just to rule that out and to possibly find out what is wrong. I doubt if just stress makes it hurt that badly.

Hi,Thank you.

It's definitely not any kind of fracture so that's good. The pain is muscular which is brought about by stress. It's I'm the muscles at the top of my back

I'm sure I'm time it will sort itself out. I have a lot going on just now and although I am trying to stay calm, my stress hormones don't know that!!!

Hi matePersonally I suffer from severe chronic back pain and I have not noticed any new spots of pain beginning with stress however I have noticed the severity of the pain in the original area increase in severity, even with only day by day mood swings due to, say, arguments with friends or family which are much more minor than the problems you describe. I hope you can find a way to improve this issue and would like to reassure you that this is certainly nothing abnormal, though I imagine that is little consolation! I have also heard many stories of people in similar situations, so while obviously if you can find any such fractures as burgerlady describes then that is great, however don’t worry if not. Good luck!

Hi , I’ve got the same problem as you describe. Have you got forward head posture and does your back cramp. It’s called hump back or dowagers and can be caused by bad posture and can be corrected by exercises. Most doctors and physiotherapist wouldn’t be able to diagnose it as depends what you are trained to look for. I had a sports / deep tissue massage therapist who diagnosed it. Good luck and hope my suggestion helps.

Hi,Thank you for your thoughts. I don't have forward head posture and my back is sore because i have herniated discs and sciatica. I don't have hump back or dowagers either. I have been tested for this through my sports massage therapist and there is no evidence of it. She agrees it is probably caused by stress. When she massaged the muscles in the back of my neck the relief was immense and almost immediate. I think the problem is I need to find time to relax and chill out every day!!!! easier said than done though I know!!!
