I wanted to ask if anyone else has had any hair loss due to managing chronic pain and stress? I have been suffering from stress and depression for 3 years as a result of having to manage chronic pain in my right leg following an accident to my foot in 2018. I now have hair thinning all over and wondered if this was a common side effect of stress or whether it is more likely to be down to my age/hormone changes instead?

Sadly it could be either stress or age/hormone changes. We have no way of knowing. You need to go to gp to discuss. Possibly if hormone related you may have other symptoms and might be some medication that can help??
The only knowledge I have of this personally is that when someone I know lost their hair through stress/alopecia they lost most of their hair through a very short time. So was not just thinning.Like I say best to get opinion of gp also pharmacist might be helpful? But if wants to try medication then really the gp is the only way.
Hi PainGo1,I've had the same issue with stress and hair loss. My menopause began very early. I had so many symptoms that my GP said my menopause was acute and I had to be put in a rare HRT tablet which was ordered from abroad. My hair loss was sudden and coincided with very lengthy, stressful, personal and family events. I was soon taken off the medication as I have arthritis and my GP said the medication would leave me prone to Osteoporosis. I'm not allowed any form of HRT as a result, which I think made my hair loss become a lot worse.
Now almost 4 years later most of my hair has grown back but I have around 1/3 of the fullness that I had back then. My GP said I'm not allowed any dyes, treatment, etc, so my hair is very dry and each strand is about 1/2 the width it once was and very easily broken too.
Because the issue had continued for so long my GP told me the government had stopped treatment on the NHS for hair issues. Never will I forgive the conservative party for this 🤬I was told to buy 4 things and they were really expensive. Just the tiny 15g if cream was £36. I managed just 1 months worth and got softer, stronger hair but just cannot afford it every month. So I'm just left like this ...wearing a weave or wig every day which I find itches and over heats and overwhelms me when I get the hot flushes.
So, yes stress can do multitudes of sins to your inner and outer body and it's workings. I hope you get a GP that will give you what you need for your hair. All the best 😍
Have you inquired to your dr. about alopecia? My dear friend (female) went through the same thing and it was all due to stress, pain, anxiety etc. There is treatment for it and her hair did grow back beautifully.
