Radio Frequency Ablation

Hi all , I am new to this pain Forum, but not new to HealthUnlocked. Has anybody had experience of Radio Ablation Frequency treatment ? I had this for Lower back pain 2 months ago ..a pain which affected my L5 and radiated through my right butt , into the top of my right thigh then down the back of my leg into my foot and toes, also causing my foot and ankle to swell and pains and needles in my toes and arch of my foot... all so painful that I had to stop walking and stand with my foot off the ground . If I could hop on my Left leg I would have done. I just wondered if anyone had had RAF and what their take on it was. Cheers Silkysoft

silkysoft, in addition to the Radio Ablation Frequency treatment have you explored low laser light therapy also called cold laser therapy for your lower back pain? Also have you considered acupuncture in partnership with chiropractic? Each works better with the other. Pain andstress causes loss of magnesium and a deficiency leading to thiamine being under activated. I encourage you to research the B vitamins, of course starting with B1, for their nerve healing and other benefits. Take time to learn about what magnesium can do your you too. Consult with your health care provider befoe using any supplement.

I haven't had an ablation yet, but have an appointment for one. I do not. know what kind. I didn't know there were many kinds. All I have wanted is to be out of pain. I am hoping it works.

And as for the magnesium and vitamins mentioned, I have taken them all and magnesium is good for muscle but it also can give a person terrible diarrhea. Twice I have had to get up from bed and clean myself and my clothing from an small over-the-amount of magnesium. So I'd be careful to take only the smallest amount to begin with. And as much as I'd like to think vitamins and herbs would help an injured spine, they simply don't.

We have to do what we can in terms of western med. for now. Maybe one day there will be other ways.

Hi Silkysoft,

You have not said what effect the RFA has had on you. Was it successful?

Hi Alex, Thanks for your reply. I sent a reply ,but cannot find it published ?

I had that surgery for my lower back and didn't see any results. I went back to having injections done and that works for me.

Hi cat622, I have had injections before the RFA yes they were successful but didn't last unfortunately ,hence the RFA which hasn`t made any improvement yet . I now have tingling and numbness in my right leg ,which I am told will pass. Hey ho !!

I have injections around every three months. If you are having tingling you might want to see a neurologist.

Hi silky soft, I have RFA regularly for leg nerve pain and I can get 3-6 months relief now. It took a long while to work up to this but it's the best treatment for me I've found. It can take awhile after to really kick in so I do hope it helps you.

My pain consultant also said taking nortriptyline with it can make the RFA effects last longer!. It has for me. I hope that helps and good luck. Xx

I have no relief unfortunately.. I appear to be the odd bod... my whole central nervous system suffered an electric shock .. been through hell since 2nd of April ...3 days after the procedure. Although the consultants and my own G P insisted the symptoms were coincidental and were not the results of the treatment . Although they couldn’t diagnose what else it could be . Twice in Hospital where a Junior Dr. Commented it has the symptoms on par with a mild electric shock , her Senior ‘ poo pooed the idea . Won’t go into details as the side effects are ‘ dubious ‘ Who am I to argue differently , just so relieved that I am feeling back to normal this last week . I put it all down now to ‘ just one of those things ‘ cheers Silky
