Hi folks hope you are all well. Spoke to Painmanagement yesterday getting put on duloxitine as amitriptyline doing nothing for me so waiting to get prescription. Are any of you on this tablet ? I also mentioned the clinic in Stirling that prescribes cannabis although it is very expensive it's my last resort if these tablets dont work he said he would write me a covering letter explaining I've tried lots of different meds over the past 30 years. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Take care of yourselves

haven’t tried duloxitine capsules, but was put on dosulepine capsules. i prefer tablets as can cut them to reduce dose. Also, i’m trying to come off medication now - using pain management techniques.

Same here Betsy. Nerve pain in ankles and toes numb. Hands also. I’ve tried everything nothing works. I’m waiting on hospital trying me on a biological injection. Steroid injection help me a bit say for a few weeks. I would take poison to give me some relief. Someone told me to try smoke cannabis but I don’t want to do that. Hope you find something

Hello Perhaps you should try ‘SupremeCBD’ or ‘PureIs’ CBD oils. They’re all above board no thc and meant to be very good for pain. Google them for reviews. Hope this helps.

Hi cpj8540 thanks for your reply. I've actually tried cbd but didnt have much effect tbh but if duloxitine dont work I'm thinking about the cannabis clinic in Stirling expensive yes but I'd give anything to reduce this evil pain. I'll keep you posted take care

Betsy50 in reply toCpj8540

Hi cpj8540 I think it's about £130p/m for prescription but I've been living with pain since my early 20s I'm just at that point I'm so so desperate for relief like all of us on here I guess just different types of pain on different parts of the body. To get prescription today as I explained to Painmanagement consultant that the change over takes too long fair play to him he did exactly as he said he would I'm ever so thankful

I’m on Duloxetine for neuropathy in my feet. It helps by reducing the pain but doesn't stop the numb feeling.

I’ve recently increased my Duloxetine to 120 mgs for nerve pain due to extensive cervical & lumbar spinal injuries and have been pleased with the result. (I was taking Amitriptyline but it wasn’t having much of an effect keeping me asleep, I had been on a much higher dose before but had problems with it). I am not aware of any additional side effects of Duloxetine, as I have been taking the drug for over 10 years. It could be worth a try.

Kind Regards

Hi mitch48 thanks for your reply. I've been on gabapentin for a very long time. I tapered myself off morphine after 6 years couldnt take the brain fog anymore so my pain ha went rocket high !! I have nerve damage all down my left side had surgery in 1999 disectomy on L5 but been left with loads of issue since. Good to hear it helps your nerve pain hope it works for me. You take care of yourself

Hi Betsy,I feel for you. I’m on Fentanyl patches, Oramorph, Gabapentin, Baclofen, Naproxen etc. Earlier this year, I had to have emergency extensive lumbar surgery for impending Cauda Equina and Spondylolisthesis of two vertebrae. I had on L3 - L5, 3 x Foramenotomies, 3 x Laminectomies, 2 x Discectomies and Interbody Fusion with rods & screws etc.

My right lower leg and foot is partially numb and I’m having problems sitting, as it brings on nerve pain.

Do you have any tips perhaps?

Kind Regards,

Mitch

Hi mitch48 like you I was rushed for emergency operation and been left with incomplete cause equine on meds for life now I blame the stupid consultant for that not once did he get me an mri scan in the 8 years I attended him I was young and didnt fully understand I could have used him the total idiot but it's too late now. He rushed me to a private hospital for mri but it was too late the damage was done. Oh you poor soul that's so awful all you've been through. Unfortunately I dont have any tips for nerve pain it just doesnt go away. I'll keep you posted on what happens. Take care of yourself speak soon

Hi Betsy,That’s terrible, I’m still recovering from those type of symptoms but to have to be on meds for life to help with them is tragic. It’s very difficult when you & possibly inexperienced to have to deal with doctors and can be very daunting indeed. The tips were for the problems that I have sitting, I’ve got a nice cushion but I suppose it will just take time for the nerves to heal 🤞🏻Please do and hopefully the Duloxetine helps.

Kind Regards,

Mitch

Hi mitch48 yes it's been a terrible time I was only 29 when I had my operation with a child under 2 years of age who I couldnt look after properly and had a fight to get him into nursery I couldn't sit or bend for weeks ho was I supposed to change his nappy goes beyond me but my health visitor was so so mad I did get him into nursery. The best cushion I have and use is from my wheelchair comfier than a normal cushion and a lumbar support cushion keeps you sitting in the correct position. I've learned to luve with the incomplete cause equine but dont have much of a social life due to it but I guess there is people much worse off than me in this world so I'm just thankful I cant still manage short walks. Definitely get one of those cushions they are far better for comfort. Keep well my friend and thanks again much appreciated

Hi Betsy, poor darling, 29 years old with a toddler, how on earth did you manage? I thought I was young at 34 years old, after being injured in a road traffic collision, the day before my youngest’s 5th birthday. I’m 51 now. Your disabilities sound more involved than mine as I only use a crutch regularly and a wheelchair now & then whilst also waiting for a knee replacement.

I hope you find some well deserved relief from your nerve pain with your new medication. Hopefully a pain clinic can assist you further. Take care.

Hi mitch48 omg thankfully you still here to tell your story that must have been a terrifying time for you physically and mentally. God I got run over with a guy on a push bike he run right into the back of me sent my flying walking stick the lot I was so embarrassed as it happened on my local night street town but however I suffered from a bad knee for months so I really sympathise with you knee pain hard to bear. I hope you get that knee sorted out soon. Take care of yourself

Mitch48 profile image
Mitch48 in reply toBetsy50

Hi Betsy, it was only a relatively minor collision, I knew it was happening but couldn’t get out of the way and was hit from the rear. It’s been downhill since then health wise and tough mentally, good therapy worked and helped me deal with what happened. Finding a great therapist who can deal with severe chronic pain was difficult. The battle to deal with injuries and deterioration year on year was even more tricky to solve. Sometimes it feels like a constant battle, I’m sure you’ve experienced all this and more! You poor thing, the chap ought to have been looking! It’s not fair that you were the one injured!

I’m hoping to have my knee replacement before Christmas, I’ve had it postponed as I have to wait 6 months after my lumbar surgery, so that my back doesn’t bleed with the blood thinners that you’re given during surgery 🤞🏻Thank you & you take care too.

Beware. Duloxetine was, a few years back, banned in the USA and Holland because it was so addictive and coming off it so difficult because of the serious withdrawal symptoms. I speak from my own experience.

Hiya Betsy50

I changed from Amitriptyline to duloxetine about 2/3 years ago. Helps me much more than amitriptyline.

But I take mine in the morning instead, otherwise it keeps me awake. But has really worked for nerve pain.(neuralgia) Not for fibromyalgia (at all) and a bit for anxiety too.

Can cause a bit of a funny tummy to start with. Don't all new meds. But bear with it, and if you do come off them!! You must taper off them very slowly. I had to once as was trying out a new med, ( not my choice at all) and was put straight back on them duloxetine........ the consultant over email during Pandemic gave wrong advise.......

So yeah I'm doing good on them with my other cocktail of nerve meds and pain meds. They have helped the most.

Good luck.

Hi folks,I have been on Duloxetine since 2017 not long after I had my lumbar surgery. I had bilateral decompression and spinal fusion at L4/5 for spinal stenosis, sequestered disc fragment and spondylolisthesis.

My consultant prescribed them for nerve damage and after a year or two on them and still suffering from chronic pain and attending pain management, I decided to try coming off them as I was unsure whether they were helping.

Boy did I know soon after that they had been helping. The consultant surgeon who I had seen when around them asked why I had stopped taking them and nicely but strongly advised me to start taking them again and I have been taking them since.

I really am unaware of any side effects and and I am in constant chronic pain with nerve issues but at least I know they are having at least some effect.

Hope they help you too and worth a try.

Hi Betsy50 hope your ok well as well as you can be. I’ve nerve pain due to an annular tear in my lower spine also got arthritis in neck and hands. Taking Duloxetine 60mg, Co-codamol 30/100mg, Gabapentin 100mg and Maxitram 150mg get some side effects but if I don’t take them I simply wouldn’t function. I’m looking into edibles cannabis wise and heard these can be quite good but a bit cautious esp legal wise never mind price, wondered your thoughts!

Betsy50 in reply toDarko74

Hi darko74 thanks for the reply. I tried cbd oil strong strength but found it dulled the pain but the more I took it it wore off. I have put the question to Painmanagement consultant about the legal cannabis clinic in stirling and as I said he would write me a covering letter no problem. I've been on duloxitine a few days now and it has calmed the nerve pain in my toes slightly so I'm thinking I need to go upto 60mg dose but so far looking alot more promising that amitriptyline. Hope your well take care of yourself
