Hi, this past 5 weeks I have been suffering terribly with thigh pain going into my groin. I am finding it difficult to walk. Any advice please. Thanks.
Thigh and groin.: Hi, this past 5 weeks I have... - Pain Concern
Thigh and groin.
Hello Aoibheann I hope you go and get checked out I had those symptoms and it was my hip
Good luck I've now had both my hips replaced and a new lease of life
I hope that I'm not frightening you it might be something completely different
Could this be related to back malfunction. The middle thigh is the attachment location of the main muscle, which is irritated in my bouts of sciatica. I cannot lift my thigh to climb stairs when it happens.
Same symptom as me. I am waiting for hip replacement and have abductor muscle strain. See your doc’ but be prepared to wait a long time for answers .
We're just ordinary people on here, not medics. My advice: see a doctor! Or at least a physical therapist.
Hi, I have just had trochanteric bursitis maybe look that up. I was having pain down the thigh bone going into my groin thankfully it’s on the mend now. I think you should go and get it checked out.
Joanne20, Oh thank you for that. I hope that is what it is. How long did your pain last?
I’ve had it about 4 weeks it’s better than it was but if I walk too much the pain comes back again, if I sit and rest it the pain goes where as when it first started I was in pain even when I was sitting. I hope you get sorted.
I've had the same pain for 2 years or more. I had all the usual, and the physio said it was ''mechanical''. Whatever that's supposed to mean. I'm still in pain, find it hard to walk, and go up or down stairs.
Hah! "Mechanical" is what the GPs call it when they don't know the cause of your back pain - that's what mine called it for 3 years of my constant visits to the practice. By then I was in so much pain I could only walk 20 yards so I virtually insisted on being referred to an orthopaedic surgeon who specialised in backs. When I eventually got to see him (this is the NHS working but very slowly), he immediately referred me for an MRI which showed I had severe spinal stenosis which requires surgery.
That's what I'd diagnosed myself with. However, the physio, xray and ultra sound technicians put it down to wear and tear. In other words ''go away''. I'd ask for a referral too, except I've not been able to see the GP for over 2 years. I think they're all moonlighting whilst claiming every free covid money giveaway.
Did the operation help you?
Haven't had it yet! The surgeon suggested due to his long NHS waiting list that in the meantime he referred me for radiofrequency nerve ablation at Pain Management. They gave me an appointment for April 2020 which was cancelled as Pain Management was closed down and consultants redeployed for Covid duties. Another appointment was cancelled in July 2021 as at pre-procedure I was found to have tachycardia, which has still to be investigated. This just shows how long it may be before I can get either the ablations done, and I have been discharged from the orthopaedic surgeon until I get it done and he sees if the results will work, however temporarily. It just goes on and on and my pain is getting worse, I rattle with painkillers and am bent over like a 90 year old (am an otherwise healthy 76)!
Redeployed to their homes. If its any consolation I'm much younger but also walk like a 90 year old. Dealing with the NHS only worsens my pain, and surgery is something even the nurse warned me against.
So we plod on, literally.
Yes, I think many of them did do a bit of work on the Covid wards (but Pain Management consultants wouldn't be qualified for much else so not really of any use there), so they quietly continued seeing patients privately at Nuffield/Shire hospitals just up the road from the Leicester General! Enough already......!No wonder I'm cynical.
No, I'm just typically stoic, but thankyou for your kind comment. xxxE
Ah, yes, that was one of the things my orthopaedic back surgeon mentioned in my case. It was possibly an addition to the severe spinal stenosis etc. However, nothing has, as yet, been done about it in the NHS and I can no way afford to go private - hence my being stoic and just going downhill. Oh well, I can sit down and read, listen to the radio, watch my lovely big garden go to waste and the house get dustier......!!! I try to keep being patient and cheerful, however. Best wishes to you, Aoibheann xxxE
There's very few of us could afford to go private. I'm not much younger than your goodself. So it's onwards and upwards! With Warmest Wishes Abellemed. X 🌈
Hello Abellemed ,I did read your post and admire your perseverence despite the pain you have to endure and trying to be cheerful That takes a lot of emotional strengh xx
Thank you for your kind words - I have to be patient and stoic, otherwise I would take to the drink! These threads help enormously though, as we all know what it is like to have to experience constant pain and live in hopes of being a bit more normal, also it helps to know that one is not alone. Best of luck to you and my very best wishes. xxxE
I had bilateral hip replacements in 2008 and 2009. They were 6 months apart. It was my experience that pain is unique to hip osteoarthritis. Unlike the knee or other joints, the pain from the hip manifests in the groin and upper thigh.
I am not attempting a diagnosis just sharing my experience. In keeping with the “spirit of the thread,” I share that experience for a couple of reasons. When rehabbing my first hip, because of over compensation when I walked, my opposite hip lost the little joint space left and jammed a pointed osteophyte into the socket. I knew the other hip would eventually need replacing but I called my orthopedic surgeon at home and begged him to get me in to see why I went from a dull ache to sharpe and spiked! In addition, I had Avascular Narcosis of the femoral head. That can cause the bone to die and break causing major structural problems and potentially a hip fusion instead of a replacement.
My point, I agree with the advice to go see a doc and at least get a X-Ray. If it is AVN that can be as close to an “emergency” as you can have with a joint and needs to be ruled out by a doc! Good luck with your pain and diagnosis, as well as, navigating the free health care system your guys have…lol! Just a poke at the stogies across the pond from a Yank!
