for a few months now I have been suffering with hip and thigh problems. I have had back problems for a couple of years now but from the lumbar area it seems to spread across my hips causing more of a discomfort than strong paid and numbness or restless legs in my thighs (hope this makes sense). My GP is unsure whether it is referred/deferred pain from my back or whether it is now spreading elsewhere. Can anyone tell me if they suffer the same and find a way of sleeping at night with it? Once it starts I am unable to sleep any longer as it also feels like an electric shock in both of my thighs at the same time
thanks in advance, any advise most appreciated

Sorry to read of your hip and thigh problems. Just wondering if you've had your hips Xrayed?. Also what you describe at night affecting your thighs sounds more like a nerve problem which may be coming from your back. Have you had a back MRI?. Nerves can give funny sensations like you describe. If it worsens you may need to see a neurologist for nerve conduction tests!. Do you take Amitriptyline?. This is a good relaxant for nerves and can help you sleep at night. Worth asking your GP about it. Hope that's helpful and you improve soon. X
hi Misty, I have had an xray on my back about 3 years ago which showed mild scoliosis brought on by muscle spasms. This was recently investigated and said that nothing they could do after a course of physio but I think you are right as all the nerve endings seem to be right at the edge of my skin but the medical staff just seem to ignore it. I have meralgia parasthetica and due to my heart condition they do not want me to take Amitriptaline and have given me Capsaicin cream which doesn't really work. Thanks for your advice though it is good to know that someone understands what I feel
Three years is a long time since an X-ray , things can change in that time. I'm sorry you have other tough medical conditions to cope with as if pain isn't enough!. Your GP is right about referred pain because you can get back ache as referred pain from your hips. Have they been Xrayed?. There are other nerve painkillers you might be able to take like Gabapentin!. You could ask your GP about it. I take it and it's very effective for my nerve pain. You do need some help with this as nerve problems can be very hard to live with. Hope it improves soon. X
thanks Misty for the advice, I will go back to my GP and push for something to be done although when I was there last week she did say whichever pain is the worst come back and they will refer me to the correct person so thinking that the nerve pain is the strongest and ask for another x-ray x
before I started getting nerve burns I had weird pain in my thighs and buttocks, including stabbing pain. the body can be tricky with symptoms showing up outside of the actual trouble spot. I can only suggest working with your doctors to treat the back and see if it helps with the thigh pain and/or attack both problems at once. anything that messes with my sleep I have to address right away. that sounds horrible! I hope you get some answers soon.
Hi there. If your symptoms are still there you need to see a neurologist and they will have better idea I have similar but mine came from cervical myelopathy but they scanned my lumbar which showed minimal changes just shows how pain travels ,hope you get sorted
HI, i have hypermobility too and i have the same problem, i also have stiffness in the hips too as well as back spasms where my back collapses as the muscles aren't supporting my spine. When sleeping, i find it hard to sleep on my sides as my shoulders usually would get stiff or dislocate, so i sleep on my stomach in a starfish position or kind of straight and if my knees hurt or back i would put a pillow under my feet so that it keeps my knees from hyperextending in my sleep - hope this helps!
Hi. I've been suffering with lumbar pain since 2006. It started after a hysterectomy. I went to several doctors & none could tell me what the diagnosis or either thought it was all in my head. Finally, in 2014 I started with pain mgmt & the doc said it was a herniated disc s L5-S, sciatica. He put me on 20mg oxycodone 6x/day & had multiple injections plus RF Ablation. Needless to say none of that helped & things started getting worse with shooting pain/burning. My thighs started hurting just like you described & so do my hips. In June 2018 I had a car accident & started going to a chiropractor. Once we starting chatting about my pain he suggested I see a different pain mgmt doc so I got on the internet & found someone. The 1st day I saw him he mentioned Rheumatoid Arthritis & he tested me. My ANA & Rheumatoid factor came back positive. He did end up dropping me down to Norco 10/325 6/day & sent me to a Rheumatologist that I can't see until March. Anyway, I can only sleep on my side in the fetal position with a pillow between my knees. Btw, physical therapy did NOT help...at all. Good luck to you. Norco, gabapentin, tizanidine, lorazepam.
i have the same difficulty, i have hypermobility which is incurable and all i can do is physio but it doesn't help at all and i used to sleep like that but then my shoulders would become still or dislocate
