Hi everyone, I’m a chronic pain sufferer which a lot of the time feels soooo hopeless! (I’m sure the majority of you know the feeling 🙄) so I was hoping since this community has pain in common we could all add a comment with ANY tips, tricks, advice or methods of pain relief! Anything is worth listing if you can! Thank you ✨💗
METHODS OF PAIN RELIEF?!: Hi everyone, I’m a... - Pain Concern
METHODS OF PAIN RELIEF?!
Hi im a mum and the best I got was tramaddol What do you have?
Hi lovely thanks for your message. I have had tramadol a long time ago but it was knocking me out.. from what I remember it was good but maybe that’s because I was asleep lol 😂 I have scoliosis and sciatica so I take zomorph, oramorph, gabapentin and paracetamol. I’ve been on these for about 11 years but recently my doctor told me that my pain receptors can’t work when you overflow them with too much medication. So I’m about to start the very scary process of reducing the dosage to hopefully get better results! The theory is the less I take the better they’ll work?! Not sure if you have been thru this also? Fingers crossed it goes okay. Take care xx
Hey love! Another chronic pain sufferer here! I have arthritis in my back and hip, spine damage, idopathic intracranial hypertension (this is a rare brain pressure), amongst many other things. My cousin actually suffered from scoliosis, unfortunately she is no longer with us. She actually made a switch from gabapentin to pregabalin - i take these and they are for neuropathic pain. I take up to 44 different medications per day- well i did. Now i just take zapain - it is a 30mg codeine tablet with 500mg of paracetamol in - as well as my Pregabalin and i am fully pain free. Its important to only take painkillers when you are in pain, and not in advance - otherwise you will have periods where you are in pain and can't do anything about it (because you've already had the tablets) 💖
Hi, I have cervical & lumbar spinal injuries (Cervical Radiculopathy (C5/6 & C6/7) /advanced arthritis/previous Spondylothisthesis (2 lumbar vertebrae)/Previous Impending Cauda Equina/ACDF’s (2)/Foramenotomies (3)/Laminectomies(3)/Discectomies - Lumbar (2)/Lumbar Interbody Fusion/Cervicogenic headaches/L5 bruising - numb right lower leg & foot/Carpal Tunnel/Raynauds Primary) along with my knees needing replacing (Im 51!). I take Oramorph, Fentanyl, Gabapentin, Baclofen, Naproxen, Duloxetine amongst others. My non medicine must haves are REST, long hot baths, tens machine (I couldn’t do without this), foam roller, electric heat pad, massage machine, cold/menthol gel and YOGA! yes, even through certain pain levels, I can practice it and stretch my weary body, if I didn’t those awful muscle spasms would get even worse, (& would also wake me up during the night, along with the Radiculopathy). I cannot stress enough how much pain treatments and procedures can help with pain, not everything qualifies or can be helped with surgery. Ask for a referral to your local pain clinic from your GP.
I also had amazing CBT from my pain clinic to help deal with all aspects of pain, including the fear of pain which prevents us being active and socialising where we can.
Meditation is fantastic too.
Anything that helps for mind & body for chronic pain sufferers is a bonus rather than just wanting to increase the levels of pain medication that we take.

Wow thank you so much for this message and all the advice!! I’m really sorry about all your injuries! You seem to know your body and what works for you 🙂✨ take care!! Xx
Hi there,You’re welcome. Thank you, I certainly do, I’ve had spinal injuries for 17 years & knee problems for 40+! You get used to what works & what doesn’t quite quickly. I like to be able to impart that information, if it can help one other person then I’ll be happy. I do hope you find some relief from your pain xx
Thank you so much! I’d love to try yoga it’s just hard without many ‘good days’ wow so unfair being in pain that long! Do you mind me asking how this happened? Were your injuries caused in surgery or was it maybe in an accident? Xx
I put off doing yoga for over 10 years as I was concerned that it would cause me more pain. I have radicular pain from the top of my head, my face, all of my neck and then collar bones, shoulders, arms & hands. I have burning nerve pain due to two damaged nerves in my neck and my pain is constant. I have awful muscle spasms that affect me from the back of my head, neck, shoulders, arms & upper body. I don’t have many good days but I gain so much by pushing my body and psychologically benefitting from that. The stretching helps to relieve pain in my muscles but can often cause extra pain by stretching the nerves. The breathing methods in yoga are exceptionally calming and I relish the practices that I do whether it’s 15,30 or 45 mins which I do most days. I can be having pain levels of 6 and 7 and I’ll still attempt a certain practice - I’ve got numerous different types of practices that I do, including total body, core or booty (which I can’t do at the moment due to my knees). I was injured in a road traffic collision, I was stationery at traffic lights when someone ran into the back of me. The impact caused a disc to prolapse in my neck and my shoulder tore. It was the beginning of deterioration in my spine, resulting in 3 surgeries. The one in my lumbar spine this year was the equivalent of 9 stand alone surgeries - with 9 separate procedures. Hellish!
I had some pretty horrible symptoms as a result of one of the conditions I had, (Cauda Equina) and I had two slipped vertebrae which needed lots of metalwork put into my spine to stabilise and strengthen it. I’m on the mend now at last!
What condition/s do you have & how does your pain manifest? Xx
Wowww! 😮 I’m so sorry you had to go through that! Your accident is such an awful story! I’m glad you’ve found so much use in yoga and love how motivated you are by it! That surgery sounds testing! I hope it all went well and you’re doing better? You seem to handle your situation so well!!! Amazing 😊I was born with scoliosis (S-shaped spine) so I had procedures all through my childhood, spinal correction surgery with rods and a spinal fusion later on so my back and neck has limited movement now. (You sound like you had something similar for your spine?) I recovered from all that pretty normally but years later I started developing all the wonderful pain and it never left 😂 there’s never really been much explanation about it apart from multiple surgeons saying it’s not surprising I’m in pain after the surgery I had so young. They often just put it down as ‘after surgery pain’ and massive nerve damage.. I guess metalware isn’t kind to the body after so many years! Xx
I've been taking Tramadol for quite some years along with paracetamol. However it only takes the edge off the pain so I use heated pads , muscle sprays , exercise , massage, and walk with a funny gait. 😒 I have alsorts of gadgets to help reduce pressure on painful joints Oh forgot to say I have multi joint arthritis been with me for nigh on forty years now. Distraction is another way to take the mind off pain but does not work in severe pain .
Does anyone get benefit from " herbals"?Turmeric and such like??
Hello Me and a friend have both added turmeric to our daily pill box and think it helps quite a bit but takes a few weeks to get to the right build up. I heard a couple older guys talking about it at the local warehouse club. I'm 63 so they were ?? . But they both thought it was also doing good for them.
Can you please describe your pain or the surgeries you’ve had? How is it affecting your body and movements?
Hi I had a motorbike accident 40 years ago and I have lived with chronic pain ever since over the years I have had loads of different pain relief and rarely have side effects after a few days as well as prescribed medication I used tens machine heat pad and I also have used cbd oil which you can take in numerous ways it is expensive but it also helps with some of the mental health issues you get with chronic pain
