Hi

I'm so sorry that you have suffered such a traumatic event. It must have been so frightening. You are not being stupid, if you need to take more for short term use to get you through this physical and emotional trauma then do what your body tells you. It might be the ones you've been put on haven't worked for you and you need to try different ones. Please make an appointment with your GP as an emergency appointment on Monday. I do hope that this helps. Take care Lynne

Thank you for your reply

I spoke to my dr on Thursday thats when she doubled my pregablin and prescribed morphine it does say take when needed so im guessing i can take more.

And yes it was extremely terrifying, ive been referred to minds matter but i think ill feel better once this pain is under control.

in reply toLjc11

Did she say how much morphine per day you are allowed ? If not, you might be better phoning your surgery on Monday just to clarify what dose you should take each time you have it and how many times per day. Take care Lynne

No. Never take more than the prescribed dose.

You don't say how long you have been on these meds....sometime they need to build up in your body

You will be stressed too and this doesn't help as muscles tighten causing more pain

Have you been offered any other help

If you feel they aren't helping then see your GP soonest

The morphine says take as needed so i wouldnt be taking more than i should i just feel im taking loads of pain killer i very rarely took paracetamol before this.

The Naproxin and dihydrocodeine ive been taking since December, the pregablin only a week i was meant to take 1 3 times a day for a week than 2 3 times a day for a week then 3 3 times a day but after a couple of days dr upped it 3 3 times a day and the morphine only a couple of days.

Thank you for your reply i really appreciate it like i said im not used to all these meds.

OK thanks for clarification.

However....be careful with pregabalin. It should be increased very slowly. Most GPs seem to be unaware of this. Stay on prescribed original dose then increase 1 x 100g for another week or so then another increase 1 x 100....this is usually one tablet.

It is often called the 'marmite' drug...it wither works brilliantly or not at all. There is no middle. Be also be aware f you come off it...do it just as slowly. It can be evil.

Hopefully this extra pain you are experiencing is short lived with no lasting effects

I have been on different types of morphine for a long long time. If you are in pain then you need it. The word is not addictive, but dependent. We all cope with pain in different ways and on different levels. I know it sounds trite but if you can meditate and use your own bodies pain killers. Look at anything that Dr. Joe Dispenza has on the internet. He is a Dr that uses science and the spiritual reality we live in. Believe me its not woo woo stuff, everything he does is scientific with evidence. It is a far better way of accessing our bodies that pharmaceuticals. But whilst you are mastering your inner-self, pain management is the only way. I am also sorry you have to go through that awful ordeal.

Interesting that you say 'scientific with evidence' about Dr Joe Dispenza. I can't find any scientific papers that he has published or any peer reviewed reseach. He seems to be a chiropractor.

Hi there, what a nightmare to have been through. I agree with the above comments to take more if needed. But my question is can they do anything about the slipped disc that is causing the trapped nerve which is why you have to take so much pain relief? I am not saying an operation would cure all pain (I know it does not always speaking from experience) but it might be a worthwhile route to explore.

Im having an xray then their going to go from there, i cant believe how painful it is abd im not soft when it comes to pain i gave birth with no pain relief and didnt make a sound, broke my wrist at work but carried on working for the rest of the day because they were short staffed but this is horrendous x

I gave birth several times without pain relief. But the herniated disc in my lumbar causing severe sciatica was just something different completely, childbirth was a doddle next to it. Had 4 operations on it, last time a fusion. X-ray did not show anything, but MRI did.

I am sorry that you have had such a dramatic event happen to you. I am also on morphine and Naproxen I take morphine 10 mg doses up to 40mg dose if/when needed. I only take it when I need to and rely on Naproxen and paracetamol along side of morphine doses. I went to pain management to see what was an option for me. My GP only advised so far. I have been offered other meds but for now I manage.

Could you ask to be referred to pain management ? You are taking a lot of pain meds maybe they could suggest something you haven't tried yet ? Good luck chronic pain is soul destroying I hope you get better days x

Try not to worry over the morphine honestly it just sounds scary when people mention morphine . 5 ml equates to 10 mg of morphine and that's quite a low dose . I take OxyContin which is far worse believe me and morphine as you as and when I need it . I know you have probably been given lots of advice but I have suffered since the late eighties so quite a while . If I were you invest in a good quality tense machine . If you can find one where the pads heat up as well as giving you the tense treatment all the better . That small amount of heat through the pads as well as the tingling of the tense works wonders for me . Hope that helps a little keep ones chin up try to stay positive I know it isn't easy most of the time but that helps too . Really sorry you suffered at the hands of others like this the world has twats in it to unfortunately . Good luck Neil

Sorry to hear that you had such an awful experience. How long has it been since the assault? I ask as if its been longer than 3 or 4 months you should be pushing your GP for referrals to physiotherapy, pain management and neurosurgery. The physio and pain management might give you some non drug techniques to help with the pain in the short term, the neurosurgery to see if surgery would give any longer term benefits.

I have several degenerated discs and stenosis in my neck with trapped nerves and spinal cord compression. Mine was caused playing rugby. I currently take 8 x paracetamol, 8 x 30mg dihydrocodeine, 4 x 10mg baclofen, and 6 x 600mg gabapentin a day. I also find it difficult to deal with the amount of meds, side effects and that some days it does not touch the pain.

But I've made the decision to go for ACDF surgery - I'm not saying it's going to solve all my problems but it seems like it will be preferable to being on painkillers indefinitely

Hi

I too have a trapped nerve in my neck. I did it doing yoga! I am on 120mg of dihydrocodeine, pregablin, naproxen, duloxatine and a medication for Dystonia.

The pain from a pinched nerve is like nothing I’ve ever had before and I live with chronic back pain. As much as I’d like to say don’t take anymore medication, if you need it and it helps then it’s worth it. I’m going to have nerve induction investigation to find exactly where the nerve is pinched and then it will be operated on. I can’t wait.

Take care of yourself. I hope they sort you out quickly.
